Chapter 2

"I've been Deputy Chief of Staff for a long time, you—"

"You won't be Deputy Chief of Staff for much longer."

I cut him off before he could finish.

Chase stared at me, utterly bewildered by my serious demeanor.

In the next second, he grabbed me, demanding to know what I meant.

I yanked my arm away forcefully and instructed the doctor's assistant once more to process Felicity's discharge immediately.

"You..." Chase was furious but powerless against me.

I left, my face cold as ice.

Seeing this, Felicity feigned weakness again, calling out to Chase and leaning on him, trying to provoke me.

I had no energy left to engage with her. Due to the last-minute surgery addition, I had other work to take care of.

By the time I finished and left the hospital, it was already 9 o'clock.

The restaurant I had booked two weeks in advance called to inquire about my status, as I was running very late.

The image of Felicity and Chase together flashed through my mind, and I found it darkly amusing.

Our five-year marriage now felt like a stain on my life.

Chase hadn't tried to contact me.Although it was within my expectations, I still found it difficult to control my emotions.

Did Chase really believe he had earned the position of Deputy Chief of Staff on his own merit?

I had never told him that my grandfather was the investor in our hospital.

Thinking about everything I had done for Chase over the years, I felt truly resentful.

I didn't return to our marital home, but instead went back to the apartment that had been part of my dowry.

Calculating the time, I realized it had been five years since I'd last been here.

As I stood at the door, taking out my key to unlock it, I suddenly heard voices coming from inside.

"Chase, honey, it really hurts. Can you take a look at my wound?"

My hand holding the key froze, and my eyes gradually grew cold and dark.

I had underestimated Chase.

He had the audacity to bring Felicity to my apartment.

This was the house I had bought before our marriage, and Chase had absolutely no claim to it.

Because we were married, I had given him a spare key for emergencies.

Who would have thought he'd use this place to hide his mistress?

My mind flashed back to the events of the day, and I could still feel the stinging pain on my face."Chase, please, you're a doctor too. It's not too much to ask for you to check my wound!"

"Don't keep rejecting me, okay?"

Faced with Felicity's fragile plea, Chase would be lying if he said he wasn't moved.

His gaze involuntarily fell to Felicity's lower body.

In an instant, he averted his eyes.

"Felicity, this... isn't appropriate."

I watched Chase's feigned reluctance through the phone's surveillance feed.

His desire was written all over his face.

Meanwhile, Felicity had already made herself comfortable on the couch, ready and waiting.

"Chase, you're the Deputy Chief of Staff. I trust your skills."

"Please, I'm begging you."

Chase swallowed hard.

Just as he was about to step forward...

With a 'click', I unlocked the door with my key.

They both jumped, startled.

Seeing it was me, a flicker of guilt crossed Chase's eyes.

"Dr. Westwood, what are you doing here?"

Felicity sat up, deliberately adjusting her clothes in front of me.

Faced with her provocation, I couldn't care less.
