"If you want to break up, then this ring should be returned to you. I hope Teacher Stratton won't let personal feelings interfere with the teaching atmosphere."
Xavion's face immediately darkened. I flashed him a smile and turned to leave.
Ms. Kerpan, who's close to me, came over and glanced in Xavion's direction, whispering in my ear,
"What's going on? Did you really break up? Teacher Stratton was just saying the other day that you were about to set a wedding date."
I nodded, still feeling the stares on my back,
"Things didn't work out when meeting the parents. If it's not a good fit, there's no need to waste each other's time."
That day, I stayed late at the office preparing lessons. At the office door, I saw Xavion wearing the scarf I had knitted for him.
"Delia, let's talk."
Xavion and I walked to an empty break room.
"Do you really want to break up with me?"
Xavion frowned, looking at me with irritation.
