Chapter 43

A cold gleam flashed in Emily's eyes as she deftly pulled on the reins, steadying the horse and guiding it further away.

From Maria and Kristen’s perspective, Emily appeared to be panicking, making irrational choices by not heading back toward the stable.

Kristen sneered, her voice dripping with malice. "What do we want? You, Emily, trying to come between Maria and Nicholas. How much will it take for you to leave him?"

Maria, standing slightly behind Kristen, hesitated, trying to maintain a veneer of innocence. "Kristen, leave it. Even if she's trying, Nicholas loves me. Why else would he have invited me here for the weekend?"
