Chapter 31: Supernatural Table

Caroline assumed Corbin would return to the Surnatural table once his classmates arrived, but he appeared to be content where he was. He lightly stroked her shoulder with his thumb, and Caroline admitted to herself it did feel nice. She wondered if she should give Corbin a chance—push Aldrick from her thoughts for good. She turned, watching Corbin’s boisterous expression and gesturing with his free hand, as regaled the table with some humorous tale. It made her smile, even though she hadn’t been paying attention and had no idea what he was talking about. As though sensing her, he turned and winked at her, finishing his story with a flourish, much to the amusement of everyone around them.

“There she is. I was wondering when you were going to join us,” he leaned over and whispered in her ear.

“What do you mean? I’ve been here the whole time?”

“No. You haven’t.”

Caroline sighed—she knew he was right. “I’m sorry, I…”
