The burning bolts of lightning had come to take Kai.
The arcs of lightning weren't able to destroy him on immediate contact, but the pillar's blazing assault was enough to send Kai reeling back. Unfortunately, the lightning was like a beastial hand grasping on to him so he was yanked back into its range.
Soon it enveloped his arms, and wrapped around his chest like a parasite ready to obliterate its host.
He knew he wouldn't be able to withstand the furious assault, and yet Kai allowed the glowing white electricity to envelop him. It was a strange feeling indeed, it felt as though his very being was vibrating wildly out of control. Not only that, but it seemed like a million needles were poking into his skin.
It was truly a terrifying feeling. Kai could feel his flesh on the brink of splitting open entirely, then folding back into itself just to be dispersed into a cloud of ash. The scorching lightning used his own veins like highways to travel up his arms and eventually down his body.
It jumped across his skin, staining it with burns, and repeated the process over and over again.
'Dammnit all, I'm gonna be obliterated.'
It was true, if he kept this up his entire being would be turned into nothing but dust. But… Kai was no idiot. He didn't just dive into things head first, hoping for the best outcome, and he certainly was not some naive child trying to play at being a superhero.
He knew he couldn't withstand the attack, so he wasn't going to. Just as the lightning began to burrow deeper into his skin Kai activated his affinity. In doing so he peered into the lightning itself. It was an indescribable feeling.
It was as if his entire attention and consciousness was pulled into the stream of lightning, and what an enthralling sight it was.
Kai was looking into the very basis of what the lightning was. Of course, that was electrons. He could see every individual one as if they were their very own beings.
'Whoa…'
Suddenly Kai was pulled out of this strange state. His mind ached with pain from the strange interaction, the backlash of what he had done taking its toll. But he knew what he had to do now.
Instead of trying to take on the titan's raging lightning, Kai decided he was just gonna absorb it, and so he did.
The power from the seething bolts was so extraordinary, Kai began to believe he had bit off more than he could chew. He, in hindsight was being flooded with energy.
'It-It's too much.'
No, there was no room for doubt or anything for that matter. The only thing Kai could have in his mind was the intent in what he was doing, otherwise this dangerous act would end in utter failure. In the midst of his thoughts he had to remind himself who he was:
'Lock in, Kai.'
With those words a curious memory began to play in his head.
—
It was a dark, snowy night. The streets were quiet and all the shops had been closed so late into the night.
There was no wind, so the flakes descending from the sky fell with peaceful grace.
Down a narrow street with tall buildings lining its sides, a small shack stood between two large edifices. It looked run down and shabby with a hole in the roof, covered by a cloth tarp.
Within, a single gas lamp illuminated the interior, and sniffles could be heard. Soon a soft feminine voice broke the tranquil silence:
"Hush now, the snow will soon pass, little one. For now, your mama will keep you warm."
Inside the lit up shack a young woman sat wrapped around a large olive green blanket. She had long, silky black hair that almost seemed to keep going. Her face was a pale white that made her seem more like a porcelain doll, rather than a human, and she had dark matt black eyes that had a sort of gleen to them.
From underneath the blanket, a young boy poked his head up, revealing himself. He had raven black hair and violet eyes that seemed to glow when the light touched them. His left front tooth was missing, and tear stains ran down his cheeks. His tiny nose was red from sneezing, and the persistent cold from the winter snow.
It was Kai.
This was around the time his mom died so he couldn't have been over the age of six.
"B-But it's so cold. Mama please do the magic trick, pleaseee?"
A soft smile played on the woman's lips, yet something relating to somberness snuck its way in, avoiding the notice of the young boy.
"Alright, but only because you are such a special boy."
With that, the melancholy hiding in the young lady's face faded as hundreds of tiny dots, made from plasma peppered the ceiling. Bringing with them a toasty warm air.
"So prettyy. Will I have magic like you when I grow up, mama?"
"Oh yes, you will be just as mighty as your daddy."
Wonder made its way into little Kai's eyes.
"Really? Then I promise to grow up just like him!"
Kai could remember this night better than his own birthday. Mostly because that was the night his mom told him about his dad and how he was a profound elitist within the stalker association. She didn't go into much detail but she did say how he died.
He sacrificed himself in order to save Kai's mother.
It was heart wrenching to hear at the time since he was just a little boy, but Kai found comfort in the fact his dad was a good and honest man. He even looked up to him a bit, wanting to join the stalker association when he was older.
But that wasn't the only reason Kai remembered that night. It was also due to the fact that it was the night before his mom's death.
It hurt to even think about, even more so than the frenzied lightning crawling up his skin. At this point Kai was at his breaking point. He was absorbing the raging electricity, but at the same time it was overwhelming him. If the situation had not be worse enough already, another bolt of lightning struck him in the back, then another smote him, then another, and another.
There were now seven bolts of lightning entangled onto him. The pain was almost unbearable… almost.
Kai had not been blown away yet, though he was starting to realize his plan to absorb the electricity was not going to work out. That meant it was time for plan B. Now there was no time for hesitation. It was now or never, so using all the built up energy from the whips of lightning relentlessly attacking him.Kai used that power and turned it against its originator.
Resolve swelled up within him, overpowering the tyrannical fury of the blazing rods of electricity. The titan dwelling in the storm was indeed an undeniable being, but Kai didn't care.
All he was thinking about right now was getting himself and his companions out of here, and the promise he made to his mom.
Sending multiple arcs of violet lightning out, and repelling the seven pillars of white radiance, a violent flash of purple hues was released upon the storm.
