Chapter thirty-two

Keeping my word to Nichole was proving more difficult everyday.

It had been a week, yet everyone was still talking about her. I had to pretend like I was oblivious to what was happening.

Nichole hadn't visited my office since that day. If she had anything to report, she sent her underling instead. Somehow, she was always too busy in the evenings, so we barely spent time together.

This wasn't the vision I had when I suggested we work together.

My meeting outside the office was running later than expected. The company I was eager to buy had recently appointed a new CEO, forcing us to renegotiate from scratch with new terms. It was inconvenient, especially because Nichole and I had planned to have dinner together at my place after work.

"Hey baby girl. The meeting is running longer than I expected. I'm gonna be late." I said as I stepped outside their boardroom.

"That's fine. We can have dinner some other time."
