Chapter 37 – The Death of Wade

Wade: "..."

"You're right. This is totally unfair!"

Wade froze for a second, then immediately launched into a furious tirade against Alex.

But Alex didn't bother listening. Instead, he wrapped his arms around the base of a poplar tree, yanked the entire thing from the ground, smashing it down toward Wade.

Never mind how massive the tree looked—visually, it was downright ridiculous—but with Alex's current strength, wielding it felt as effortless as twirling a baton.

Whoosh! Whoosh!

The giant tree swept through the air with a terrifying momentum, a veritable whirlwind in Alex's hands.

"Sh*t!"

Wade cursed under his breath as the enormous tree crown expanded rapidly in his field of vision.

There was no time to think—he dove to the side in a mad scramble.

What else could he do? The sheer size of the canopy, tangled with thick branches, made it nearly impossible to counter. Even with his reflexes fast enough to deflect a storm of bullets, this was another matter entirely.

There was no way he could slice through that monstrous canopy with a single swing!

All he could do was dodge like hell.

Boom!

The massive crown slammed into the ground, sending a shockwave rippling through the earth.

"You're pretty agile."

Alex raised the poplar tree again and shrugged at Wade. "But how many more times can you dodge?"

Alex admitted—it was his first time using such a bizarre weapon, and he wasn't exactly a pro at it yet.

But after getting a feel for it, he was confident that landing a hit on Wade would only get easier.

That's right. Hit.

In Alex's hands, the tree crown might as well be a gigantic flyswatter.

And Wade? Just the annoying fly that needed squashing.

In this kind of matchup, no matter how fancy Wade's swordplay was, no matter how refined his martial arts might be—it was all meaningless.

This was a pure dimensional crush. No reasoning. No fairness.

Of course, Alex's method did have a critical weakness: he couldn't let Wade get too close.

Once Wade got into melee range, Alex would lose the ability to swing the tree effectively. The massive crown would become dead weight.

Wade clearly understood this as well. After dodging the first swing, he tumbled across the ground like an acrobat and lunged toward Alex with the speed of a monkey.

Unfortunately for him, idealism rarely survived reality.

No matter how good Wade's skills were, the gap in raw power between them was just too great.

Zzt!

A beam of heat vision burst from Alex's eyes, aimed straight at Wade.

There was no way Wade dared to take that head-on. At the last possible moment, he leapt to the side.

But Alex's flyswatter had already been waiting there.

Boom!

The enormous tree crown came down like divine punishment, smashing Wade into the ground.

Alex casually planted one end of the trunk on the dirt and lightly stepped on it with both feet. Just like that, Wade was pinned under the tree.

"Dude, this is straight-up bullying! This isn't fair! Totally not fair!"

Wade's strained voice came muffled from beneath the crushed branches.

He was a complete mess. Blood oozed from scratches and punctures where the branches had gouged his body.

But that was nothing compared to the impact—the brute-force slam from the tree had been like a boulder crashing down. Several of Wade's ribs were broken.

Alex's eyes, now glowing red again, stared down at him.

This time, Wade had no chance of dodging.

"Open fire!"

"Fire at will!"

The special agents Stryker had dispatched couldn't sit still any longer. Seeing Wade get wrecked so quickly sent them into a panic.

Ratatatat!

Ratatatat!

They opened fire in a relentless barrage, bullets pouring down like rain on Alex.

His body wasn't quite tough enough yet to completely ignore that kind of firepower. Forced to make a choice, he abandoned Wade, channeled power to his legs, and stomped down hard.

Crack!

The ground split under the force, launching Alex like a cannonball toward cover.

He landed behind a parked car on the roadside.

Then—casually—he reached out and hoisted the vehicle in front of him like a giant metal shield.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

Bullets hammered the car, turning it into a mangled, perforated wreck.

Meanwhile, the Wade who had been pinned under the tree had used the distraction to escape.

Zzt!

But he'd only just crawled out and barely straightened up when another heat beam shot from the side—

—piercing clean through his heart.

"Sh*t... I actually died here? That guy was right… I guess I really did have it coming."

Wade stared wide-eyed at the hole in his chest.

With those final words, he collapsed to the ground.

Seriously, what a weirdo.

Even his last words were one-of-a-kind.

Alex couldn't help but mutter inwardly.

Still, after using his heat vision three times in quick succession—even if each blast was brief—it had pushed him close to his current limit.

His eyes burned now, aching and sore. He couldn't afford to keep using them.

But then again, did he really need heat vision to deal with a few regular agents?

Hardly.

Alex grabbed the bullet-riddled car, held it in front of him like a battering ram, and charged forward like an unstoppable force.

For the agents, the moment Alex closed the distance—they lost every advantage.

They became nothing more than helpless prey.

They couldn't even shoot freely anymore. One wrong move, and they'd hit their own men instead.

"Stop him! Don't let him get any closer!"

Their team leader shouted in panic.

Ratatatat!

Ratatatat!

The hail of bullets intensified.

But it was useless.

A car weighing over a ton meant nothing to Alex. He was upon them in seconds.

Bang!

He launched the vehicle with a powerful kick, sending the hulking machine flying toward the agents like a meteor.

They scattered in a frenzy—but not fast enough.

Several agents were crushed instantly, reduced to bloody paste beneath the metal wreck.
