Chapter 102 - White Queen's Shock: What a Monster This Mutant Is

Zzzzt!

Without another word, twin beams of searing heat shot from Alex's eyes, slicing straight into the thick steel wall in front of him.

The laser vision cut through twenty centimeters of solid steel like it was nothing, carving out an uneven square-shaped loop.

Bang!

A single punch followed, and the entire slab of metal flew inward with a boom, revealing a gaping hole.

On the other side of the wall, a blonde woman with delicate features lounged comfortably on a bed, propped up against fluffy pillows with a book in hand.

It was none other than the White Queen—Emma Frost.

Only when Alex stepped boldly through the hole he'd just made did Emma finally close her book and gracefully rise from the bed, her expression calm and unhurried.

She eyed Alex for a moment, clearly puzzled. She didn't recognize him. Testing the waters, she asked, "Did Shaw send you to rescue me?"

Emma had been captured while still in the Soviet Union—right after Alex and Shaw had clashed for the first time at the CIA's mutant facility. She'd never actually met Alex before.

"It's complicated," Alex shrugged casually. "But Shaw's dead, Emma."

Emma's expression twitched slightly, then twisted into a cold, disbelieving smile. "Shaw? Dead? Who are you trying to fool?"

With Shaw's terrifying powers, she couldn't imagine anyone capable of killing him.

"As you can see, I'm one of your kind," Alex replied, spreading his hands. "I know you've probably got a thousand questions—but are you sure this is the best place for a chat?"

Emma narrowed her eyes, and her gaze flicked toward Raven, who stood silently nearby.

"And what about her? What's her deal?" she asked warily.

It was Raven—disguised as a CIA agent—along with two other mutants, who had captured and brought her to this place. Emma hadn't forgotten.

"Looks like there's a bit of a misunderstanding," Alex said, waving Raven over.

Raven gave a knowing nod. A shimmer of blue energy rippled over her body, and in a flash, the illusion of Moira vanished. Her true form stood before Emma.

Emma's wariness began to fade. Though she'd once fought Charles across two ships, Raven had been disguised back then—and from a distance. She hadn't realized the woman who captured her wasn't a human agent, but a shapeshifting mutant.

Now that the truth was revealed, her guard dropped—at least partially.

But even so, her eyes shifted back to Alex. Without warning, she activated her psychic ability, attempting to read his mind.

Her smile froze.

Her brows furrowed.

She failed.

She couldn't penetrate his thoughts at all. Nothing. Not even a sliver.

This man wasn't just a telepath—he was stronger than her.

Stronger than Shaw.

Maybe even stronger than Charles Xavier.

Back when she'd sparred mentally with Charles across the cruise ships, she'd at least been able to touch his mind. But this… this was like hitting a wall of iron. No entry, no influence—nothing.

"All done?" Alex asked with a half-smile, his voice carrying a hint of amusement.

He'd sensed her probing, of course. But with the system's protections in place, not even Charles could break through—let alone Emma.

Emma's cheeks burned, not just from failure, but from the humiliation. Still, she didn't dare underestimate Alex anymore.

Regardless of who he was, anyone who could storm into CIA headquarters to rescue her so boldly couldn't possibly be an enemy.

She didn't hesitate any longer. With swift steps, she followed Alex out of the reinforced cell.

Beep! Beep! Beep!

Alarms were already wailing through the entire facility. The sharp, oppressive sound echoed down every corridor.

Emma instinctively quickened her pace.

She might've always acted as high and mighty as Shaw—carrying that same mutant superiority—but she wasn't foolish. They were deep in CIA territory, and even a handful of powerful mutants would be in serious danger here.

But Alex?

He strolled like it was just another day.

Even paused after a few steps.

"What is it? Why are you stopping?" Emma asked sharply.

Alex turned, calm as ever. "Relax. There's one more mutant in here we need to get out."

He faced another thick steel security door and, without waiting for a reply, fired up his heat vision again.

Zzzzt!

The blazing rays tore into the metal like it was nothing, smooth and effortless, as if slicing through paper.

Emma watched in stunned silence.

Even from the side, she could feel the power radiating off those beams. The raw, destructive force made her heart skip a beat.

A psychic… who also had that kind of firepower?

Terrifying.

There was no other word for it.

Emma had seen plenty of powerful mutants in the Hellfire Club, but even among them, this man was on another level.

"Over there!"

"Move! He's escaping!"

"Seal the exits! Don't let them out!"

Voices and footsteps echoed down the halls as CIA agents rushed toward their location.

"Emma, think you can hold them off for a moment?" Alex asked, glancing back at her without breaking stride.

Emma didn't waste time replying. In the blink of an eye, her body shifted into diamond form.

But even so, she called out, "I'll handle them for now—but don't take too long!"

Sure, her diamond body was bulletproof, but that didn't mean she was invincible. Enough sustained firepower could crack her defenses. She still remembered how close Erik had come to shattering her in the Soviet lab.

And now, in the heart of CIA headquarters, surrounded by armed agents?

She could only stall for so long.

With that parting reminder, Emma charged down the corridor toward the oncoming wave of enemies.

Bang bang bang!

Gunfire exploded across the hallway.

Alex didn't even flinch. He just kept calmly cutting through the door in front of him—unbothered, unhurried.
