It's done

After Hugo left, Carmen put things away and washed her hands. She was delaying the fateful moment and yet she had to take her share of responsibility in this matter. She had certainly accepted but the desire to refuse had taken hold of her ever since, even though she could not go back. She had never been close to a man because otherwise she would suffer the wrath of her family and suddenly she was going to spend the night in a man's bed. The most important thing for her was the fact that she feared nothing. Nothing was going to happen, she was just going to sleep and nothing else.

Finally, she decided to go. She headed towards her room and when she arrived at the door, it was ajar. She knocked when a harsh sound reached her: "you can come in." She entered slowly and found that everything was plunged into darkness. She didn't even know which way to go and didn't even see him.

"I...it's very dark."

“I don’t know because I haven’t noticed. You know, whether there is light or not, it doesn't change anything for me given my state but I will light it for you."

She didn't even recognize him. She had been afraid that he would be mean to her again, that he would tell her that she just had to endure in the dark like him but to her great surprise, he had not done that. She was even on the verge of wondering who this man was who had taken possession of Felix Alvarez's body.

She was fiddling with her fingers when suddenly the room was lit and she was overcome with curiosity. She looked around and found that there was nothing out of the ordinary in the man's room. It was simple, with a very comfortable bed in the middle of the room. She looked at her sofa which was at the other end of the room and said to herself that she would be more comfortable there instead of being closer to him in the same bed.

“You can go to bed if you want,” he told her.

“I… can we talk? I know it doesn't suit you just like me but Felix, we can't live like complete strangers forever, you know that, right? I’m not asking you to tell me about your private life, but just to tell me the essentials.”

“I prefer that we take it slowly and the rest will be for tomorrow. If you wake up tomorrow still alive or if I wake up tomorrow still alive, we can take the plunge but as for now, you need to rest. These days have not been easy for you.”

she wanted to imagine that he cared about her but that was far from it. With his hatred for her, he couldn't possibly be caring about her. He just wanted to be obeyed as usual and although she didn't want it, she said nothing and went to bed.

He hadn't moved from his place since he'd flipped the switch, believing that he himself was afraid to go to bed. Maybe he was having difficulties, she wanted to ask him if he needed help but thought better of it. He was going to take it badly again as usual.

"You are not going to sleep?"

“I do what I want, I sleep at the time I want and so far, I have no explanation to give you, my dear wife, so just sleep.”

the unpleasant had once again taken possession of him. If only she had not wanted to unravel his mystery, this situation would never have happened. It was as if everything was her fault, as if she was orchestrating everything. He was afraid she would see how much pain he was in and even worse if he was going to take off his clothes. She told herself that the best thing to do was to pretend to be asleep. It was not violating his privacy but to see how he was doing.

She closed her eyes and for hours, she expected at least to hear some sound, no matter how small, but nothing came to her. She opened one eye and found that his gaze was on her despite the fact that his eyes were hidden by his dark glasses. She might have thought he was looking at her because he hadn't moved an inch.

Maybe he was waiting for her to sleep first? maybe it was his idea. He could have let her sleep in the living room so that he could come and spy on her afterwards instead of leaving her at his mercy to spy on him like that, so openly.

Sleep was really threatening her and her eyelids were becoming heavy. She struggled but in vain because with the night spent in the cell, on a day like that, she needed to get enough sleep. She decided not to fight anymore. He was not decided to give in and his body was no longer responding to anything.

“I… I don’t know if it’s because I’m here that you’re running away from your bed. Sleep is taking me out and you can still ask me to leave.”

“I don’t see why you insist, Carmen. I asked you to come and for nothing in the world I'm not going to ask you to leave. You can sleep now, I’ll watch over you all night.”

She wanted to tell him that he didn't need to do it but since he was determined to stay that way, she lay down and pulled the duvet up over his body. She was sure that even if someone came to carry her and the bed, she wouldn't notice anything and he would be there to defend them both. It was with her prayer of hope that she finally closed her eyes as she felt him moving towards her but too late to look at him, she

had already sunk.
