Since the moment she arrived at the apartment, they had not spoken at all and this heavy silence bothered her. She wasn't asking that he consider her his wife but just as a roommate or even just someone to keep him company. That too, she could bear but total indifference, she could not help him as Hugo had asked her.
Felix was stubborn and suffered from high-level self-sufficiency. He hadn't even bothered to ask her if she was okay or not after a night in a cell. She spun around for several seconds but nothing came to mind as to what she could do.
"I can cook ?"
She waited until he could at least speak but the silence persisted. At this rate, she was going to go crazy because in the end, she didn't know what he wanted. Maybe he thought he liked this situation but that wasn't the case and he needed to understand. she was gentle, very gentle in fact, but what she had deep inside of her was suffocating her to the point where she had to release it all.
“You know what my husband? I didn't ask to be your wife because if I had had to choose, I don't think it would have been you. Don't think that it's because of your disability that I'm saying this but because you are a very negative person who would like to bury yourself in your suffering and die from it and if it continues like this, let me tell you that it's okay suffocate you and you will actually die. I have nothing to gain by making peace with you but only, I would like to get out of this situation, I would like that for once in my life, that I have peace and if this solitude and this silence helps you to get better, so good luck!”
She was out of breath and was catching her breath little by little to better tell him more because she wasn't finished. She had some pretty important things to tell him about his caveman-like behavior.
When she saw him heading towards his room, she walked towards him with a long stride and stopped his movement without hurting him. If she saved this for next time, it wasn't going to be the same.
“We are a couple and I accept it now. I'm your wife and you're my husband, which means this house is ours and I do what I want, so I'm going to settle in and I'm going to do what a woman should do. I’m done now.”
She removed her hand from her wheelchair and saw him leave. She had thought that he would at least protest what she had just said and that way, she would at least hear the sound of his voice. He just nodded at her. He was so disrespectful and luckily he couldn't demand anything as a husband because he didn't act like one either. What had she gotten herself into again?
She looked out the window and saw that it was nice weather outside. Sometimes, when her stepmother and half-sister let her go a little, she took this time to let herself go to nature and it was only in moments like these that she felt good. She didn't know anyone around and she couldn't leave him alone either. He had certainly lived alone for years but it was no longer the same because whether he liked it or not, he was now under his surveillance according to Hugo.
She told herself that he would at least forgive her if she took over his cooking because it was better given the damage he owed her after all his circuses and lies. Her goal was not really to show herself as the housewife she had described to him but her goal was to filter her emotions, to free her head.
She wore an apron and the tidyness of the kitchen surprised her. If she had been a woman who was for this marriage, she would have been jealous, thinking that a woman had certainly been there.
“I think what you said is true. We are a couple and we must act like one because, you stood on what you said and I will adopt it from now on."
Carmen had heard the sound at first as an imaginary sound but when she turned her head towards the door she saw him as intimidating as ever and luckily he couldn't see she was blushing.
“what are you talking about dear husband?”
“Of what a couple should normally do, such as sleeping together in the same room and on a marital bed. It’s the least we can do, isn’t it? I will wait for my wife in our bed this evening.”
The joke! Yes it could only be a joke because she didn't really see herself sharing the same room with him and even less a bed. She owed him nothing and she was not obliged to behave like a woman in love with her husband.
when she turned around to tell him that she couldn't give in to this whim, she realized that he had already left and besides, it was she who had started this awkward situation. She had thought that it would make him act and there she found that it had obviously reminded her that he was a man and that she was a woman.
She was a terrible person when it came to making decisions, and she had just seen that. She had wanted to see him tremble and yet it was she who was now trembling with he
r taking sides.
