Living twice, dying once

Henry was once a brilliant undergraduate, full of promise and ambition. He enrolled in Law School with dreams of becoming a renowned legal practitioner. However, his bright future took a tragic turn.



In a heated argument over a girlfriend, Henry accidentally stabbed a fellow student. The victim died two days later, and out of panic, Henry fled. A manhunt ensued, and he became a wanted fugitive. Two years later, the police tracked him down and arrested him. He was prosecuted and sentenced to life imprisonment.



After serving 15 years behind bars, Henry was among five inmates granted amnesty. He walked out of prison a free man but found nothing of the life he once knew. Both of his parents had passed—his mother ten years ago, his father five. The girlfriend at the center of the tragedy had long since married a prominent politician and moved to Washington.



With no family, no job, no education, and no support from the government, Henry wandered the streets in despair. In desperation, he fell in with a gang known for house burglaries. They succeeded in a few heists before being caught. Henry was tried and convicted on five counts, earning another 15-year sentence.



While in prison again, Henry and a group of inmates attempted a daring jailbreak. The attempt was successful, but only temporarily. Police quickly recaptured most of the escapees—except Henry, who vanished into hiding.



One year later, he was discovered by authorities. In a final act of defiance, he attacked the arresting officers, injuring one before being subdued and taken into custody.



His case returned to the courtroom, but this time, the sight of Henry caused an unexpected reaction. The two judges presiding over the trial were visibly shaken. Overwhelmed and confused, they left the bench abruptly and exited the courtroom—leaving everyone in stunned silence.
