Chapter 6

Six years after I last saw him, he didn't seem much different from before. Except for a touch more maturity on his face, he was still that rebellious Max.

I laughed out.

For some reason, I suddenly found his appearance amusing.

Max awkwardly rubbed his ear.

Feeling drowsy, I crouched down and hugged him on my own initiative.

"Lily......"

He froze, at a loss for what to do.

I buried my face in the crook of his neck, my voice unintentionally choked up, "So tired."

"Thank goodness you're here, Max."

Dawn broke, and the marriage registration was simpler and smoother than I had imagined.

When I held the marriage certificate in my hand, I still hadn't fully processed it.

There was a time when I went to Aiden countless times with my ID, proposing we register our marriage. Each time, he made excuses about attending bachelor parties to avoid it.

Once, we even stood at the city hall entrance, but he received a call from an ex-girlfriend and drove off, abandoning me.
