Andrew stood frozen in his car, his mind a complete blank.
"Susan suicide?!"
"Why is she playing these tricks again?" Rebecca's disapproving voice sounded beside him.
Andrew blinked and looked sharply at Rebecca, his voice hoarse as he asked, "What do you mean?"
Rebecca's heart skipped a beat seeing the redness in his eyes. Hastily, she explained, "Ever since we were kids, Susan loved to fake illnesses. Whenever Mom and Dad scolded her, she would run away. We once searched for her for three whole days before she came back."
Seeing Andrew's expression slowly soften, Rebecca smiled triumphantly. "This time, it's probably because she saw you marrying me and she's unhappy. She just wants to make you come see her."
She took Andrew's hand and put on a pitiful expression. "It's okay, Andrew. If you want to see her, go ahead. You said before you wanted to bring her back to live with us, and I agree."
Bringing Susan back would only give Rebecca more chances to push her away and make Andrew hate her even more.
Andrew's face showed guilt as he softly said, "Rebecca, you really understand me." Rebecca lay on his chest, smirking coldly.
For three whole days and nights, Susan's name trended on social media, flooded with vicious comments:
"Susan would never really kill herself; she's just selfish and malicious!"
"Yeah, disappearing without a trace, probably just trying to get attention!"
"What a drama queen. Hope we see her corpse soon!"
Andrew sat in his office staring at these hateful comments but inexplicably felt relieved.
If even the public saw through her act, it had to be fake.
He sent more messages to Susan:
[Stop pretending, or don't blame me for exposing your true face online.]
[Do you really think you can win me back like this?]
No replies.
Frustrated, Andrew finally turned off his phone. That night, he had a meeting and worked late. When he checked his phone afterward, he found dozens of missed calls from both the kindergarten and from his son, Sam.
He quickly called back, and the moment the call connected, he heard his son's tearful voice.
"Dad, why aren't you or Aunt Rebecca answering my calls? I'm still stuck at kindergarten!"
Andrew was stunned. "What happened? Stay by the gate; I'm coming to pick you up right now."
Usually, Susan took care of these kindergarten things; he never had to worry. Since marrying Rebecca, she had taken over, and Sam liked her, so he felt relieved.
Why was this happening now? Irritation popped in Andrew's mind.
Susan would never forget something like this, and if she were busy, she'd at least send a driver. But Rebecca didn't even bother.
When he finally picked up his crying son, the security guard sighed, "It's awful. How can parents leave their kid waiting here for hours, without food, and not answer calls?"
Andrew apologized and drove away with Sam. He explained, "I was in a meeting and didn't see my phone. Rebecca probably forgot too. I'll ask her when we get home."
Sam crossed his arms and sniffled softly, "Mommy never forgot about me before."
Silence filled the car. Andrew's hand clenched tightly on the steering wheel.
He didn't call Rebecca immediately. Instead, he asked the housekeeper if she was home.
The answer: Rebecca had gone back to her parents' house.
Andrew drove straight to the Rebecca's parents' house. The gate was open, and from outside, he heard Rebecca's voice.
"I asked him last time. He doesn't want to have another baby."
His mother-in-law's voice followed: "That won't happen! Sam isn't your own child. You need to have your own to truly hold him"
Rebecca replied impatiently, "I know, but he won't allow it, and I don't dare push further."
"I don't even like Sam! That kid is such a nuisance, how did Susan ever get along with him?"
