Protecting You Silently

Once they arrived at the Davidson residence, Davion immediately lifted Claudia's body out of the car and tried to keep her from waking up.

With Alex's help, he entered his house and headed for the guest room.

"I'll take over from here. You can go home now. Thank you for your hard work tonight," Davion said.

This is what makes Alex respect Davion so much. Because it was rare for a leader to thank his subordinates. Whenever he or the others did something for Davion, surely the man would thank them.

Alex always nodded and left the guest room, while Davion slowly laid Claudia on the bed.

From the beginning, the man thought that Claudia was sleeping so soundly that she didn't feel Davion lifting her body and moving her.

However, little did he know that Claudia had a bad habit when she slept.

"Big bear," Claudia said while hugging and nuzzling into Davion's neck as he tried to lay her down.

He cleared his throat softly, asking Claudia to let him go and saying this wasn't something they should be doing.

But in her dream, Claudia was indeed hugging a teddy bear. Moreover, Davion's body was quite large like a bear.

When Claudia finally broke away from him, Davion immediately let go of her body so that she could lie down on the bed.

'She almost drove me crazy,' he thought with a sigh.

If he was around Claudia for too long, Davion didn't know what else it would be like. Especially when she rubbed her face against his neck, it was enough to make Davion's body react.

He then sat next to the bed and took off her shoes. Noticing her innocent and cute face, made Davion smile slightly and then gently rubbed Claudia's head.

At first glance, it all looked like a middle-aged man caring for a young girl who was very suitable to be his daughter.

But she was the lover of his son and the feelings Davion had were not just instinctive as a father, but a man.

A man who begins to fall in love with a woman who continues to be mistreated by her own lover. Making him want to always be there to protect her.

"I'm sorry that I can't say that I want to protect you. Given your status with my son. But I will try to be the first person to stand by your side as someone you need," he whispered and kissed Claudia's forehead.

He finally stood up to leave the guest room and went to her own room.

In the morning, Claudia finally woke up from her sleep. She rubbed her eyes and yawned softly while stretching.

When she woke up completely, she felt confused. How could she be here?

She slowly recalled that she felt so sleepy on the way home last night and fell asleep.

Gasp!

"Don't tell me, I fall asleep in the car and then Davion takes me to his house. He carried me here?"

Her heart was beating very fast at the thought. A smile instantly appeared on her face that had just woken up.

When she looked down, her two highheels were already neatly arranged near her bed.

"He really cares for me but is so shy to admit it? I didn't realize Davion's cold nature was really so warm underneath."

Claudia then intended to meet Davion who must be currently waiting for her to wake up as before. She got off the bed and opened the door to the room.

Just opening the door, she was surprised by Davion's presence in front of the door who also wanted to knock on the door.

But because Claudia opened it first and intended to run out, the two of them collided with each other.

He reflex caught her small body, making Claudia in his arms now. Their eyes met, faces so close, that she could even feel Davion's breath on her face.

"Ohh... Ekhem, Good morning, Ms. Claudia. You're awake, I thought you were still sleeping," he greeted while trying to remain calm.

"Y-yeah, I'm awake." Seeing that they were close to each other, Claudia immediately pulled away because her heart was beating faster.

Just like that man, it was fortunate that Claudia immediately pulled away, allowing her to calm herself down again.

'Early this morning, my heart is already racing. I hope I don't have a heart attack quickly at my current age just because of her,' he thought.

"Mr. Davion," Claudia called out which made him turn to her. "Thank you for letting me rest at your house again."

"No need to thank me. I did it because I thought it would be closer if we went back to my house," he replied.

"And about me being in the room, did you..."

He was silent for a moment as she recalled how he carried Claudia into the room and laid her down. How Claudia nuzzled into his neck which made Davion feel his body getting hot.

"That... I asked Alex to carry you. My arm hurts from having to sign a lot of documents since yesterday. So I couldn't carry you," said Davion who was looking for an excuse.

He didn't want Claudia to tease him even more or perhaps have deep feelings for him, because lately he did something that even her own lover didn't do for her.

'I'm too old for her. I also don't want her to feel uncomfortable if she finds out what I did to her,' Davion thought.

Alex still looked young and not much older than Claudia. So Davion thought that Claudia wouldn't feel awkward if a man who was almost her age carried her into the room to lay her down.

Claudia didn't want to believe that thinking that Davion must be trying to cover it up as usual. But she felt doubtful about that, Davion was the boss and he could have told Alex to carry her to the room, right?

Despite feeling a bit disappointed, Claudia covered it up with a smile. At least when she woke up, the first person she saw was Davion.

It was no longer the hollow and empty feeling she used to feel when she was home alone. No one had really been by her side, giving her this kind of attention since she lost her parents two years ago.

She had no close friends because Yohan had always kept her away from people. Moreover, she worked at home which made her feel even more lonely.

Realizing that Claudia was suddenly just silent with her blank stare, Davion felt something was different about her.

Had he misspoken and made Claudia feel uncomfortable or was there something the woman was feeling.

"Are you okay?" asked Davion in his usual heavy voice.

She turned her head and shook her head softly.

"I just feel happy that there's someone who cares about me. I usually do everything by myself. But I'm glad that you care about me even if it's a simple thing, Mr. Davion," she said with a smile.

Similarly, Claudia could see the true feelings Davion was feeling behind his flat face. He immediately pulled her body towards him and hugged her with one arm.

"It must be so painful and so empty, right?"

Claudia's eyes dropped, she slowly buried her face in his chest and closed her eyes.

"Yes, it feels so empty and lonely."
