When the figure entered, she went to a table near where Alex was sitting.
She looked at Alex, who seemed distracted while reading a book, and didn't speak. She simply unwrapped the food she had brought and ate in silence.
Alex had noticed her arrival but found the book much more interesting and didn't stop to look at the other side.
Yet, through his peripheral vision, he just felt that he had seen this figure somewhere before, but he wasn't sure, which was strange.
He decided to ignore it for now and focused on his book, which was already more than halfway through.
Before long, he finished reading A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking. Putting the book aside, he picked up another titled On the Origin of Species by Charles Darwin.
Noticing that Alex had just finished the book, the figure sitting nearby, eating in silence, spoke:
"I've never seen you here before. Are you new?"
Alex paused for a moment, stopping what he was doing, and turned his attention to the girl who had spoken to him.
Looking at her, Alex felt she was very familiar, but for some reason, he couldn't connect the dots in his mind.
It was as if an important mathematical formula was missing to solve this equation.
She had dark brown curly hair, dark brown eyes, and light skin. She also wore glasses.
Despite everything, Alex knew she would be a very beautiful woman when she grew up.
"I moved here last week," Alex responded politely.
Noticing that the boy had answered her question, the girl showed a happy smile and asked another question excitedly:
"Really? Can I ask why you moved? If it's personal, you don't have to answer."
Her voice carried a hint of shyness.
Perceiving this, Alex spoke lightly:
"It's okay, I don't mind."
After a brief pause, Alex continued:
"My dad got a promotion at work, so we moved here."
Hearing this answer, she asked with interest:
"Really? And where did you live before coming to Medford?"
"We came from Dallas, a few hours away from here."
Although Alex really wanted to get back to reading his book, he was patient and answered the girl's questions.
As they talked, the bell rang, signaling that the students should return to their classrooms.
Looking at the girl, Alex said:
"It's time to go back. It was nice talking to you."
"Really? I also enjoyed talking to you," the girl said.
Alex got up, put away his things, and returned the books to their places.
Just as he was about to head back to his classroom, he heard the girl's voice behind him:
"Your name... can I know your name?"
Her voice was low and timid, very different from the cheerful, lively voice from before.
Alex turned and looked at the girl, who seemed a bit shy.
If it weren't for his heightened senses, he wouldn't have heard her question.
"Alex Coleman. You can just call me Alex," he said with a smile.
Hearing the boy's name, the girl smiled happily. Then she opened her mouth and introduced herself:
"My name is Mia Thermopolis. You can just call me Mia."
After introducing herself, she turned and ran off as if fleeing from something.
Alex didn't mind. He simply turned and walked toward his classroom while thinking about the girl's name.
Then, his steps came to a sudden halt, and he widened his eyes in disbelief.
No way, he thought.
...
Classes ended, and Alex returned home, but he didn't see Mia at the exit.
Upon arriving home, he seemed distracted and went straight to his room.
His mother just looked at her son, wondering what had happened to him at school today. She had a worried look.
After entering his room, Alex closed the door and threw himself onto his bed.
He thought today would be just another ordinary school day, but he had just discovered that this wasn't just the world of Young Sheldon... there were other worlds.
No matter how intelligent he was, he couldn't understand the situation he found himself in.
How many other worlds were merged into this one? Alex didn't know.
Author's Notes:
I want to apologize. The idea of making the chapters shorter was to post two chapters per day, but plans don't always keep up with changes.
Imagine having to write with the sound of a turbine engine roaring in your ear nonstop. Spending hours trying to write on a laptop that sounds more like a noisy airplane doesn't help me concentrate.
Now, back to the romance: as you may have noticed, this world is more complicated than it seems. But don't worry, there won't be any Thanos trying to wipe out half of the life on Earth.
Mia... Some of you may have already figured out who she is. If you liked this introduction, please let me know.
And once again, I apologize if the chapter was boring.
