Chapter 13: Proposing To Become His Substitute

"I want to ask you a question, and please, I want you to be sincere with me. Do you have anything to do with the sinking of my ships?" Xavier asked Sarah, and immediately she furrowed her brows at him in surprise.

"What makes you think that I had something to do with the sinking of your ships?" Sarah asked Xavier with furrowed brows while maintaining a smiling face.

"I never said you did it; I'm only asking if you did it," Xavier said to Sarah in reply.

"Well, Mr. Xavier Quim, I didn't have anything to do with the sinking of your ships, but how can you think that a weak lady like me can do such a thing? Sarah asked Xavier with an innocent tone, and immediately Xavier furrowed his brows at her.

The fact that she denied having anything to do with the sinking of his ships didn't surprise him, but the fact that she was now portraying herself as a weak lady was something that left him astonished. With everything she had accomplished for the past five years, it's absurd for her to portray herself as a weak lady; probably she was only trying to remind him how weak she was five years ago when he used her for his selfish interests.

"Why the surprised look? Did I say anything wrong?" Sarah asked him.

"Of course not, by the way, sorry for asking you if you had anything to do with the sinking of my ships," Xavier said to Sarah, who nodded in reply.

"Apologies accepted. I can see how frustrated you are because of everything going on recently. I wonder if you have been sleeping lately," Sarah said to Xavier with a wicked smirk, but he remained silent while staring at her and at the same time wondering if she was pitying him or mocking him.

"I hate to say this; whoever was behind the sinking of your ships deserves to be rewarded, and if I ever come across the person, I will personally reward him," Sarah said to Xavier before chuckling at the shocked expression written all over his face.

"Do you loathe me that much?" Xavier asked Sarah with a shocked expression after a few minutes of silence.

"Isn't it obvious? I don't loathe you, but I detest you. If I had the power to make people vanish by just snapping my fingers, then just know that you would already vanish from the surface of the earth," Sarah said to Xavier, her voice filled with anger and hatred. Meanwhile, she still maintained a smiling face, something that still left Xavier astonished. Despite how angry she was, she still managed to conceal it with her smiling face.

From her facial expressions, Xavier could already tell that she meant every single word she said to him. If not for the fact that she said everything right in his face, Xavier would have never believed that this is the same Sarah he had broken some years ago, the same Sarah who had always been calm like a dove. That's probably the main reason why she portrayed herself as a weak lady, in order to remind him that she was weak in the past but not anymore.

"Tell me, Sarah, is it because of what transpired between us five years ago?" Xavier asked Sarah, and immediately she bit her lips in order to suppress her anger.

"I can see that you derive pleasure from asking questions you already know their answers; since you already know the answer to your question, I don't see any reason for answering it," Sarah said to him.

"What if I tell you that I'm sorry?" Xavier asked her and she scoffed at him before shaking her head in disbelief.

"What a way of apologizing," Sarah said to him while maintaining her smiling face as usual.

"It's obvious that after all these years, you haven't changed, and to be sincere, I wasn't expecting you to change just like I did, but the only thing that baffles me is that you think that a simple, meaningless apology is going to make me forget everything you did to me. I'm sure that you didn't try to give me money this time around because you are running out of it; if not, you would have tried to buy my pardon just as you tried buying my baby," Sarah said to Xavier, who was still staring at her silently.

After some minutes of silence, Xavier sighed heavily and tried holding Sarah's hand, but immediately she withdrew her hand and shot him an angry stare.

"What are you trying to do? Are you trying to blackmail me?" Sarah asked him in a menacing way before standing up from the chair where she was sitting.

"I'm sorry," Xavier said to her before standing up too.

"You should be sorry for yourself because you don't know what is coming. I had other plans for you, but it seems like Karma started ahead of me," Sarah said to Xavier with a wicked smirk, and at the same time, Mr. Charles walked into the restaurant and started approaching the table.

"It seems like your client is here already; I will be taking my leave now. Have a nice day," Xavier said to Sarah before arranging his suit and walking away.

Once he left, Sarah sighed heavily before taking her seat while waiting for Mr. Charles to approach him.

Once he approached the table, Sarah smiled at him in a friendly manner before standing up.

"Good morning, Mr. Charles, happy to see you," Sarah said to him before extending her hand for a handshake. Without hesitating, Charles grabbed her hand and kissed it, causing Sarah to flinch her brows in surprise.

"Happy to see you too, Mrs. Sarah," he said to her with a warm smile before sitting down, and immediately Sarah too sat down opposite him.

"I saw you discussing with Mr. Xavier; do you both know each other?" Charles asked her.

"Yes, he's my ex-husband," Sarah said to him shortly.

"Ooh, I thought he was only bad when it comes to closing deals with his clients; I never knew he's also bad in relationships," Charles said to Sarah, who was bringing out some documents from her handbag.

"You can never tell," Sarah said to him in reply.

"Do you mind if I become his substitute?" Charles asked Sarah, taking her off gu

ard.

"What?" Sarah asked him in surprise.
