Chapter 14: Keeping An Eye On Her

Walking out of the restaurant, everything Sarah had said to Xavier kept on repeating in his head. He had gone to the restaurant with the aim of eating something and heading to work, but after discussing with Sarah, he immediately lost his appetite.

Some months after sending Sarah away and getting all his father's properties, he started feeling guilty because of his actions towards her. He had known Claudia right from high school, but the love and support Sarah showered him in the interval of three years they spent together was something he had never experienced from Claudia. After her return, he just couldn't bring himself to love her like he used to do before; it was as if the three years he had spent with her wiped away every single feeling he had for Claudia.

After some days of reflection, he finally decided to get Sarah back, even though it meant divorcing Claudia, but to his greatest disappointment, Sarah was nowhere to be found. It was after some inquiries that he discovered that she had left New York City, but he couldn't find out to which country she had traveled to because Sarah's uncle had personally concealed it from anyone's knowledge; even Sarah wasn't aware of that.

It was two years later that he discovered that she had traveled to England to take over the position of CEO in one of her uncle's companies. In less than two years, she managed to push the company to occupy second place as one of the top companies in Europe.

Hearing about this, Xavier knew that his chances of getting her back had been reduced to 75 percent, but he was still determined to get her back.

Since her return to New York City, he had been finding a perfect opportunity to speak to her one to one and when the opportunity finally presented itself, Sarah gave him the piece of her heart that she had been withholding for almost five years and, as if that wasn't enough, she also reminded him of the promise that she had made to him and Claudia the day he had chased her away. Only if he had known that she was serious when she said that she was going to come back and when she returns that she was going to make him and Claudia regret messing with her; now not only does he have to find a way to win her back, he would also have to find out whatever she's planning against him in order to know how to defend himself and at the same time avoid hurting her.

As these thoughts were running through his mind, his phone started ringing, jolting him back to reality.

Sighing softly, he brought out his phone from his pocket and checked the caller ID, which was Ben. Without hesitating, he picked it up and placed it on his ear.

"Hey Ben, how are you doing?" Xavier asked him on the phone.

"Good morning, boss. I'm fine. What about you?" Ben asked him.

"I'm doing well too," he said to him in reply.

"Actually, I came to the company, but you weren't around," Ben said to him from the other end.

"Yes, I'm already on my way; I had to take care of something before coming. I hope everything is okay." Xavier asked him.

"Yes, everything is okay. I just wanted to inform you that we have found the person who sank the ship," Ben said to Xavier, and immediately his lips curled in a wicked smirk.

"Hope you haven't killed him." Xavier asked Ben, knowing how brutal he could be sometimes.

"No, Boss, remember you told me not to kill him when I find him," Ben reminded Xavier.

"Perfect, I will be there very soon," Xavier said to him before hanging up.

"Take me to the warehouse," Xavier said to the driver after hanging up.

"Yes, sir," the driver said to him in reply.

After some minutes of driving, the driver finally arrived in front of the warehouse. Once he stopped the car, one of the guards of the warehouse came and opened the door, and he came down and started walking into the warehouse.

As he was approaching the room where they kept prisoners, he could already hear the screams emitting from the room, probably those of the culprit who was being tortured by Ben.

If there was one thing Ben was very good at, it was torturing, but despite that, he still had calm and innocent facial expressions.

Once Xavier entered the room, he saw Ben punching the man whose two hands were tied up with a chain while he remained standing. Ben had already tortured him to the extent that Xavier couldn't even see his face due to how bruised and disfigured it was.

"That's enough," Xavier voice echoed from behind, and immediately Ben, who was still punching the man like a punching bag, left him and turned around.

"Welcome, Boss," Ben said to Xavier, who nodded in reply.

"I thought I asked you not to kill him?" Xavier asked him with a cold tone.

"Yes, Boss, he's still alive. I was trying to make him spill out who sent him to sink the ships," Ben said to Xavier.

"So, have you found out who asked him to do it?" Xavier asked Ben.

"No, Boss, according to him, he too doesn't know the person; everything was done anonymously, both the assignment and the payment," Ben said to Xavier.

"Is he saying the truth?" Xavier asked him.

"I guess he is; who wouldn't say the truth after going through everything he has been through?" Ben asked Xavier, who sighed heavily.

"Well, he's all yours; I'm not in the mood for soaking my hand in blood. If he doesn't know anything about the real culprit, then get rid of him," Xavier said to Ben, who nodded in agreement.

"By the way, I have a task for you; I want you to keep an eye on Sarah. Can you do that?" Xavier asked him.

"Yes, of course, Boss," Ben said in reply.

"Perfect, but make sure she doesn't get hurt or even suspect that you are keeping an eye on her," Xavier said to him.

"No problem, Boss," Xavier said to him.

"I will be taking my leave; I have many things to take care of in the company," Xavier said to him before walking away.

Once he left, Ben turned his gaze to the man who was still tied up, his whole body covered with blood and bruises.

"So, where did we stop?"

Ben asked him before punching him unmercifully once again.
