It was five pm, and Sarah was in her office going through the reports of the company. Being the new CEO, she had to study every single report in the company in order to know how her uncle, who was the former CEO, managed everything in the company before she took over.
She had tried going through it while in England, but she couldn't due to the fact that she had more work to do in England than in New York City. If she fails to go through it while in New York City, she might never get the chance to do it again until she returns.
As she was going through it, she couldn't help smiling at herself. She might have known many business strategies that she might exploit to boost the performance of a company, but still, she was no match for her uncle. From what she saw, she could already tell that he was a genius. No wonder the company maintained its position as one of the top companies in textiles and electronics in New York City throughout the whole time that the company was under his management, and now that he has handed everything over to her, it's her responsibility to maintain the legacy just as she has done in England.
As she was still busy with the reports, her phone started ringing. With that, she dropped the documents she was holding and took her phone in order to check the caller ID, but once she saw the person calling, she hissed angrily before hanging up the call and dropping the phone on the table and picking up the document of reports. But as she was about to start going through it again, her phone started ringing once again, scoffing angrily. She took the phone and switched it off, and at the same time, she glanced at the wall clock only to realize that it was some minutes to six pm.
Heaving a sigh of relief, she stood up and arranged the documents on her table, before putting in her bag some documents she wanted to work on at home. After arranging her things, she stood up and started heading outside.
Once she came out, the employees started greeting her, but she only replied with a nod. At the same time, Edwards, her personal assistant, approached her and greeted her before collecting her bag from her and leading her towards the car garage.
Once they arrived at the garage, she opened the car with the keys and got in. With that, Edwards handed her bag before waving at her. With that, she ignited the car and zoomed off.
The ride back to my mansion only lasted twenty minutes. Once Sarah drove into the mansion, one of the guards came and opened the door for her, and she went down.
"Welcome back, ma'am. How was your day?" The guard asked her.
"It was fine; what about yours?" She asked the guard after getting down.
"It was fine too, ma'am," the guard said to Sarah, who nodded in reply before walking inside.
Once she came inside, she met her uncle sitting in the sitting room as usual, watching the news being displayed on the television, but strangely, he was dressed in a suit as if he were going somewhere.
"Good evening, Dad. How was your day?" Sarah greeted him before kissing him on the cheek.
"My day was perfect; how about yours?" her uncle asked her.
"It was fine, dad. Are you going somewhere?" Sarah asked him.
"Yes, one of my friends is handing over his company to his son, and he's organizing a give-over party for him. Many important men in New York City will be there, including Xavier and Mr. Charles. By the way, how was your meeting with Mr. Charles?" Sarah's uncle asked her, and immediately she sighed heavily.
"It was horrible. First, I had to deal with Xavier, who met me in the restaurant where I was waiting for Mr. Charles," Sarah said to her uncle, who immediately furrowed his brows at her.
"What do you mean by you had to deal with Xavier? Did he harass you because Mr. Charles was his former client?" Sarah's uncle asked her with furrowed brows, and immediately Sarah scoffed at him.
"It was nothing of the sort, and mind you, I can take care of myself; had he tried to harass me, I swear through God, he would have actually been in police custody right now," Sarah said to her uncle, her voice void of emotion.
"If he didn't try to harass you, then what happened?" Sarah's uncle asked her.
"He came to me apologizing; well, I won't call what he did apologizing; let's just say he tried to apologize," Sarah said to her uncle, who furrowed his brows in surprise.
"You mean Xavier tried apologizing to you?" Sarah's uncle asked her in order to be sure that his ears weren't playing tricks on him.
"Yes, he did, and to be sincere, I too was surprised, just as you are," he said to her.
"So what happened next?" He asked her impatiently.
"Well, I rejected his apology; I'm not that stupid to be fooled twice by the same person," Sarah said to her uncle, who smiled at her.
"I have known Xavier right from when his father was alive, and he was the CEO of Quim Corporation. If there's one thing he inherited from his father, it's his arrogance, so don't let him get to you with his acts; you might not know what he's planning for you," Sarah's uncle said to her, and she nodded in reply.
"So is it because of him that you said that your meeting with Mr. Charles was horrible?" He asked her.
"Well, that's one of the reasons. When Xavier noticed that I wasn't going to fall for his tricks, he had no choice but to take his leave. Just after his departure, Mr. Charles arrived, and guess what happened next?" Sarah asked her uncle.
"Come on, Sarah, you tell me what happened already; you know we'll say that I hate suspense," Sarah's uncle said to her.
"Well, he asked for my hand in marriage," Sarah said to him.
"What!! He exclaimed in surprise before bursting into a round of laughter.
