"Why are you laughing? It's not even funny," Sarah said to her uncle with a deep frown.
"To you, it's not funny, but to me, it's funny; just some minutes after quarreling with your ex-husband, someone came and proposed to you, so what reply did you give him?" He asked Sarah, who shot him an angry glare.
"Of course I rejected it just the same way I rejected Xavier's apology," Sarah said to him in reply.
"Wow, two rejections in a day, not good at all, but you should have given Mr. Charles a chance; who knows, you might end up falling for him," Sarah's uncle said to her, and immediately she burst into a round of laughter.
"Do you think that I'm ever going to give any man a chance after what I went through with Xavier? I'm sorry, Dad; that's not ever going to happen," Sarah said to her uncle firmly.
"Really? So you want to stay alone throughout your whole life?" Her uncle asked her with an inquisitive look.
"Who said I'm planning to stay alone? I already have a son; he might not be here in the meantime, but believe me, I'm going to get him back soon; it's just a matter of time," Sarah said to him confidently.
"I'm fully aware of that, but you should remember that life is not all about working and earning money; you should also make time for yourself and live a normal life like everyone else and also do normal things like everyone else, things like getting married to someone who will love and cherish you, building your own family, and having your own kids, kids that will inherit everything you had worked so hard for; just give yourself a chance; not all men are like Xavier," he said to her with a warm smile.
"I understand what you said, Dad, but for the meantime, I prefer to be how I am. By the way, why are single people always specialized in giving relationship-related advice?" Sarah asked her uncle while looking away. Her uncle, knowing the reason why she asked him the question, looked at her for a few minutes before shaking his head in disbelief.
"You have to be a lonely person in order to know how it feels to be lonely," her uncle said to her. Without thinking twice, Sarah already knew that the lonely person he was talking about was himself.
"If you are addressing yourself as a lonely person, I totally disagree with you; I'm always with you, so I don't know how you manage to be lonely," Sarah said to her.
"Says someone who is always in England and who would never come back to visit me unless she hears that I'm dead or my health issues have gotten worse," Sarah's uncle said to Sarah, who was still avoiding his gaze.
"Come on, Dad, you know that's not true," Sarah said to him.
"Yes, of course, I'm fully aware of that," he said to Sarah sarcastically before rolling his eyes at her.
"Do you know what, Dad? I think you should start going to the party you were invited to; you won't want to get there late," Sarah said to him.
"And what makes you think that I'm going there alone?" Richard asked Sarah, and immediately she furrowed her brows at him.
"If you aren't going alone, then who are you going there with?" Sarah asked him with furrowed brows.
"You, of course," Richard said to her.
"I'm not interested," Sarah said to him shortly before standing up from the sofa and taking her handbag.
"Come on, my angel, don't do this to me. I can't go there all by myself, and mind you, many important men would be there. I will at least present you to them as the new CEO of Ethic Textiles in New York City," he said to her with a warm smile.
"First of all, Dad, I'm no longer your angel; I'm grown up now, and secondly, everyone already knows that I'm the new CEO," Sarah said to him before heading towards the stairs.
"As long as you are still single, you are still my angel," Richard said to Sarah, who was already climbing the stairs, and immediately she stopped and looked at him.
"You aren't going to force me to get married, or are you?" She asked him.
"Of course not, how can I do such a thing? Just follow me to the party, please; it will be of great benefit to the company," he said to Sarah, who sighed heavily after some minutes of silence.
"Alright, I will follow you, in order to have a peace of mind," he said to her before climbing the stairs.
"Hurry up then; we have to leave in thirty minutes," he said to Sarah, who was already climbing the stairs.
-------------------------------
It was seven p.m., and Charles, who was among those invited to the party, had just finished preparing. As he was heading downstairs, his phone started ringing. Without hesitating, he brought out his phone from his pocket and checked the caller ID before picking up the call.
"Hi Charles, how are you doing?" A voice sounded through the phone.
"I'm doing good, sir. What about you?" He asked through the phone while heading outside with his guards following him from behind.
"I'm good too. How did it go with Sarah? Did she accept your proposal?" He asked her.
"No, sir; she didn't even think twice before rejecting it," he said to the caller before entering the car.
"Well, it seems like she's tougher than we expected, and this is also my first time hearing that someone resisted your charm," the caller said to him.
"You are right, sir, but don't worry, I'm not giving up yet," he said to the caller.
"Well, that was exactly what I was expecting to hear. I hope you will make me proud as usual," the caller said to him.
"Yes, of course I will; it's an assurance," he said to the caller.
"Happy to hear that; enjoy the party, but don't drink too much so that you won't forget your mission," the caller said to him.
"I won't, sir," he said to the caller before hanging up.
Once he hung up the call, he sighed heavily before motioning for the driver to move.
