Chapter 7

I felt cornered. My plan was to avoid the spotlight for as long as I could.

The professor came to my rescue. "Come along children. You, there, the know-it-all. You're next." he pointed at me. I tried to hide my relief as I slipped away. Grabbing my backpack, I entered the sorting room and sat down.

A text box appeared on the tablet's screen.

"Please enter your name."

I entered my full name.

"Welcome, AEGON BRIDGER."

"Please place a deck on the scanner below. Only one deck can be scanned at a time. When your deck is done scanning, please select either SCAN NEW DECK or CONTINUE."

I placed my first deck box on the scanner. A white ring formed at the deck box's base. It rose from the scanner, then lowered after bobbing up and down a few times.

"Scan complete."

I selected the SCAN NEW DECK button and repeated the process.

I didn't know why, but my heart was pounding. The fear that something would go wrong rose up and claimed my heart and squeezed. It got very hard to breathe. With trembling hands, I pressed continue.

I didn't look at the screen as it calculated my results. I took my sweet time loading my decks back into my backpack. A low ringing noise let me know the sorting process was done.

"Results have been calculated."

"You have been sorted in the following Dorm."

"Wizard."

"You are not allowed to switch dorms until the start of the next semester."

"Congratulations, you have earned one (1) free item. Please purchase it at one of the vending machines on campus."

"You will be given your school schedule over the weekend. Classes begin on Monday at 9, though your homeroom opens at 7."

"Thank you for taking this test. Please take your belongings and exit the Sorting Room."
