Chapter 4

As we exited the emergency suite, the pack healer informed Caiden and me that our pup was, miraculously, safe.

"Get some rest and protect the pup. We'll address the severing of our bond after the birth," Caiden said coldly.

I responded sarcastically, "Do you actually care about this child?"

Caiden replied, "Of course. The pup is my heir, my bloodline. How could I not care?"

His statement was a venomous joke. In my previous existence, he had disregarded my pregnancy, allowed me to be torn apart by a beast, and watched as it devoured both me and our unborn child.

Yet in this life, he claimed to care about the pup.

Once Caiden departed, I visited a pack mystic deep in the woods. "Elder, I need to sever this child’s blood connection to his father."

The ritual can completely eliminate Caiden’s bloodline from my pup. But it’s extremely dangerous.

I thought to myself, "My little one, please don't think me cruel. In this new life, I must sever all connections to Caiden Twilight.”

Fortunately, it worked.

Upon leaving the forest, I returned to the Alpha's den and began drafting the severing papers.

Shortly after ten that night, Caiden arrived.

"I need to talk to you," we both said simultaneously, the irony thick in the air.

"You first," I offered, my voice flat.

Caiden stated, "Tomorrow, you will go to Doris, get on your knees, and beg for her forgiveness."

I chuckled, a dry, humorless sound. "Have you lost your mind? You want me to plead for her forgiveness?"

"Why shouldn't you? Doris and I are bound by politics and childhood friendship. I view her as a sister. But you're so petty and jealous, always assuming there's something more between us," Caiden insisted stubbornly.

"Are you certain you only see Doris as a sister?

What kind of 'sister' demands you visit her den at midnight to fix a leaky faucet? What 'sister' comes to our home while I'm on patrol and curls up with you on the sofa wearing next to nothing?" I countered.

Caiden's face flushed, clearly aware of the truth in my words.

"Regardless, you were wrong to lure Doris into the Gloomfang Wilds. Your malicious intent to harm her is undeniable. Shouldn't you apologize?" he said loudly, deflecting.

Enraged, I produced the memory crystal and placed it on the table before him, then shouted, "Listen to this and see who really harmed whom."
