Chapter 47

Chapter 47 - Liam's Gentle Haven

Three days had passed since my confrontation with Kaelen. Three days of silence that felt like a lifetime. I sat on my bed, staring at my phone, willing it to ring with his name on the screen. Nothing.

The words I'd hurled at him replayed in my mind on an endless loop. *I could never love a man like you.* So cruel. So final. And now, I couldn't take them back.

Isolde had made sure of that. After our explosive argument in the car, she'd swooped in like a vulture sensing death. According to Elara, who had reluctantly shared the office gossip, Isolde hadn't left Kaelen's side for days. She screened his calls, rearranged his schedule, and effectively built a fortress around him that I couldn't penetrate.

I pulled my knees to my chest, fighting the hollow ache that had taken residence in my ribcage. Something inside me felt like it was dying, withering away with each passing hour without him.
