"I think Sarah's right. If you're going to leave, then you should leave the same way you came!"
He lifted his head, his gaze locked tightly onto mine.
A pang of pain shot through my heart.
I was trying to find a way to leave with my dignity intact, but now, with a single sentence, Logan had left me utterly defenseless.
"Logan, that's enough foolishness!"
The Chairman slammed his hand forcefully on the table.
I raised my hand to stop the Chairman.
Then, I took off my watch and shed my white lab coat.
"Evelyn, don't listen to his nonsense!"
The Chairman rushed to stop me.
But I just said faintly, "It's alright, Chairman. I know exactly who this score is with."
What I left unsaid was: This is between me and Sarah!
Sarah finally broke into that same malicious smirk again.
"Alright, alright, you don't have to strip down to your underwear. Just get the hell out of here!"
She waved a dismissive hand, then excitedly wrapped her arms around Logan, kissing him again and again.
Logan, however, looked away, too guilty to meet my eyes.
I took a deep breath.
Taking a step forward, I walked away from the place I had once called home.
Outside the door, for reasons I couldn't fathom, a large crowd of reporters had gathered.
Most of them were from financial and pharmaceutical media outlets.
Some of them had even interviewed me for exclusive features before. However, today they aimed their long-lens cameras at me like cannons, launching one verbal assault after another.
"Ms. Evelyn, is it true the engagement was postponed because the Moonstone heir looked down on you?"
"Dr. Evelyn, how does it feel to see the man you love, Logan, with another woman?"
"Judging by your appearance, it seems you were kicked out with nothing, weren't you? What do you plan to do now that you've left Moonstone?"
A wave of derisive laughter rippled through the crowd.
Listening to their deeply malicious questions, I knew exactly who had arranged this.
I looked at them coolly and casually grabbed a microphone.
"For everyone who wants to see me made a fool of, I have just one thing to say: time will prove everything!"
No one applauded me. There was only endless mockery and sneering.
"That's hilarious! She's still putting on an act after being dumped by Moonstone?"
"Does she still think she's the Chief Therapist? You're nothing without Moonstone!"
"If you ask me, time will only prove how pathetic you are!"
Facing everyone's scorn, I straightened my back and walked away.
They thought I had lost everything, but what they don't know is that I was the one who chose to throw it all away.
Once I was out of everyone's sight, a discreet black sedan pulled up in front of me.
"Dr. Evelyn, on behalf of the International Medical Institute, I formally welcome you!"
An elderly gentleman with silver hair stepped out of the car.
I smiled and shook his hand.
Despite my current state of ruin, left with nothing but my lingerie, those who truly knew my worth wouldn't care about my appearance.
"I am honored by the Director's faith in me. I am ready to dedicate the rest of my life to the IMI!"
