## Hazel's POV
Sebastian's sleek car cut through the early morning traffic as I waited for his answer. The question hung between us, filling the space with unspoken tension.
"Fiona and I have known each other since childhood," Sebastian finally said, his voice measured. "Our grandfathers served in the military together. They've remained close friends ever since."
I studied his profile, looking for any sign of deception. "That doesn't explain why she acts like she has a claim on you."
Sebastian sighed, briefly taking his eyes off the road to meet mine. "Our families have history, yes. But there's never been anything romantic between us."
"She attended the same university as you," I pointed out.
A flash of irritation crossed his face. "Because her family wanted her close to mine. It wasn't my choice."
I turned toward the window, watching buildings blur past. "She seems to think differently."
"What exactly did she say to you?" Sebastian's voice hardened slightly.
