A Favor and a Complicated Dinner

## Hazel's POV

I stared at my phone screen, Sebastian's message burning into my vision. My fingers hovered over the keyboard, unsure how to respond. The conversation with Aunt Meredith had drained me completely.

"Had a call from Aunt Meredith about my father. Nothing I can't handle," I texted back.

Sebastian's response came immediately: "Want me to come over tonight? I can bring dinner."

The thought of company—even his—made my shoulders tense. I needed space to process the emotional whiplash of the day.

"Not tonight. No appetite. Just need some rest," I replied.

When he didn't immediately respond, I sent another quick text: "I'm fine. Really."

"If you change your mind, I'm one call away," he finally wrote back.

I set my phone down and rubbed my temples. The stress headache that had been threatening all day was now in full bloom.

The office felt suddenly claustrophobic. I gathered my belongings and headed for the elevator. Fresh air might clear my head.
