In 2025, Avalon—the most legendary MMORPG to have reigned supreme for two decades—announced it would be shutting down its servers on July 12th.
Rian Septiawan, Guild Master of Avanheim, resolved to stay loyal until the very end, remaining in the Throne Room of Avanheim Castle until the servers shut down for good.
But when the final second passed, a miracle occurred. He was not forcibly logged out by the system. Instead, he remained inside Avanheim. The NPCs, once simple programs, began to show consciousness, and the digital world felt entirely real. It seemed he had been transported to another world, just like in a fantasy novel.
This time, Rian swore an oath to himself. He would no longer be a loser. In this new world, he would be the victor.
To establish an empire. To conquer the world. This is the beginning of the Great Path of Conquest.
I've read this novel up to the latest chapter, and honestly, the story is exciting and interesting! For Overlord fans like me, this novel is the perfect "fix" to tide us over while we wait for Volume 17 to be released. The story is about an unemployed young man named Rian (his in-game name is Arthur Leonhart). He's a veteran player and the guild master of Avanheim in an MMORPG called Avalon, whose servers are about to be shut down. Sounds like Overlord, right? Basically, the Avanheim Guild is like Ainz Ooal Gown, but the difference is that their base is a flying castle. Two things make this novel really interesting. First, the MC pretends to be a wise leader, but in reality, he's just an insecure and timid introvert. The dramatic misunderstandings between him and his subordinates are hilarious! Second, the world-building is super unique! This isn't an isekai to your typical European fantasy world. The setting is on a planet that I'm pretty sure is Mars, since all the descriptions point to it, even though it hasn't been directly named in the novel yet. Overall, this novel isn't bad at all and is totally worth the read. You should check it out
For those who don't like the MC's current name, please keep reading—I’ll be using the name Arthur Leonhart once the MC comes to terms with himself during the “Return to Earth” arc. And for those who find the pacing slow, hang in there—the main focus of this novel will be on kingdom building.
