Days passed in the warmth of Kyoto's magical tranquility. The ancient spiritual energy that blanketed the region gave it a serenity few places could replicate. Within Yasaka's traditional estate, Kaelthar found himself surrounded by unexpected peace—and a growing number of affectionate women.
Rias and Akeno had grown surprisingly close to him. After that fateful night, filled with whispered confessions and passionate release, their dynamic shifted entirely. Rias, once prideful and composed, now snuck glances at him with a gentle softness in her eyes. Akeno was bolder—often teasing, brushing her hand against his, or leaning just a bit too close when handing him tea.
But what surprised him most was the reaction from Rias's peerage. Especially one petite white-haired girl.
Koneko Toujou.
She had remained quiet when they arrived, but Kaelthar always noticed her subtle glances. She was watchful, suspicious even, at first. But over time, her demeanor softened. It started when he offered her a simple treat—mochi filled with sweet red bean. Her golden eyes blinked once in surprise, then she accepted it with a quiet nod.
Since then, it became a quiet routine. Whenever Kaelthar sat by the koi pond or meditated in the garden, Koneko would wordlessly sit nearby. Some days, she would plop herself in his lap without a word, nibbling on the sweets he always seemed to have ready. He never questioned it, never pushed for conversation. He simply let her be.
And Koneko liked that.
He was calm. Steady. Different from most males she had known.
Today was no different. The morning breeze carried the scent of blooming sakura, and Kaelthar sat cross-legged beneath a large tree in the courtyard. His eyes were closed, sensing the magical currents around Kyoto. Ever since Yasaka explained the thinning veil between realms, he had been more attuned to the subtle shifts.
Koneko quietly approached, holding a small plate of the treats he had given her. She sat down beside him, then slowly crawled into his lap. Without opening his eyes, Kaelthar gave a faint smile.
"You're here early," he said calmly.
"I like it here," she replied softly, her tail twitching. "You're... warm."
He gently placed a hand on her head, stroking her hair slowly. Koneko leaned into the touch, chewing quietly on a mochi ball.
From across the courtyard, Akeno and Rias stood side by side, watching with curious expressions.
"Well, she's certainly claimed a spot," Akeno giggled, folding her arms under her chest. "How cute. Like a little kitten finding her sunbeam."
Rias gave a faint sigh. "I didn't expect Koneko to warm up to him this fast."
Akeno tilted her head. "Jealous?"
"...No. Just surprised." Rias looked at Kaelthar. "He really is different, isn't he?"
"He didn't ask for anything in return," Akeno replied. "Didn't try to seduce us. He just… let us come to him. That kind of calm, powerful presence is rare."
They walked back inside, not noticing Kiba watching from the hallway, frowning in thought.
—
Later that evening, the atmosphere shifted. The peaceful sky darkened, not from nightfall—but from something far older.
Kaelthar stood alone in the garden once more. A ripple tore through space above him, unnoticed by anyone else.
A whisper.
A scream.
A memory.
Kaelthar's eyes narrowed as the veil between dimensions wavered. The protective wards around the Kyoto region flared for a moment before being absorbed into his body like water returning to its source.
Yasaka appeared behind him in her golden kimono, sensing the same thing. "Is it another breach?"
Kaelthar nodded. "Minor. But frequent. It's getting worse."
She hesitated, biting her lip. "Are you... alright?"
"I am." He looked at her gently. "But the worlds are not."
He had avoided thinking too much about it—about his role as the last Guardian. His siblings, once protectors of creation, had fallen one by one. Betrayal, war, entropy. He alone remained, wandering realities, keeping balance where he could.
Now, the multiverse trembled again.
"Yasaka," he said quietly, "I'll need to prepare a place soon. Somewhere safe—outside this reality. A home strong enough to shield from even the gods."
Yasaka stepped forward and touched his arm. "I'll help you build it. We all will."
He nodded slowly. "Thank you."
—
That night, the group gathered inside the estate. Rias sat near the fireplace, sipping tea. Akeno leaned casually against Kaelthar, her head on his shoulder. Koneko curled up by his leg, half-asleep, her tail swaying lazily. Kunou sat in Yasaka's lap, looking sleepily at the warm fire.
Rias looked up from her cup. "You said you'd build a home… outside reality?"
Kaelthar nodded. "A sanctuary. A dimension not bound by the rules of this universe."
"Sounds like paradise," Akeno teased. "Will there be hot springs?"
Kaelthar gave a small smile. "Anything you want."
Koneko blinked. "And snacks?"
"Of course."
The girls laughed softly. Even Rias smiled, the tension in her shoulders easing.
Kunou tilted her head, then looked at Rias and Akeno. "Big sisters... can we all live together there?"
The two girls paused for a moment, glancing at one another in surprise. Then Rias leaned forward and gently took Kunou's hand.
"Of course, Kunou. We're all family now."
Kunou beamed. "Yay!"
—
Three days later, the new dimension was born.
Kaelthar stood in the void—shaping it with raw will. Mountains rose with a thought. A crystal lake shimmered beneath twin suns. Endless fields, floating islands, glowing rivers, and silent forests filled with starlight.
It was breathtaking. Untouched.
And completely hidden from any cosmic interference.
As he landed on a soft patch of grass, the others arrived behind him. Yasaka took a deep breath, looking around in awe. "You really did it."
"I'll expand it more over time," Kaelthar said. "But it'll do for now."
Koneko leapt into his arms without warning, startling him. "This is our home now?" she asked.
Kaelthar caught her and smiled. "If you want it to be."
"I do," she said softly.
Rias stepped forward, brushing her crimson hair behind her ear. "You know... I used to think I'd walk this world alone. Do my duty, lead my house, marry someone for politics…"
She looked into his eyes.
"But now, I see a different future. A warmer one. One with you."
Akeno nudged her. "Took you long enough."
Yasaka wrapped her arms around Kaelthar from behind. "And to think... I was the first to fall for this man."
Kaelthar chuckled, holding them all close.
Kunou darted between them, throwing her arms around all of them. "Best family ever!"
—
The days that followed were peaceful. A new rhythm settled.
Kunou clung to Akeno and Rias like they were her big sisters—and they, surprisingly, embraced it. The three often cooked together, laughed together, and played in the flower fields. Koneko and Kunou became best friends, always seen together nibbling on treats or sunbathing under a tree, sometimes even falling asleep on Kaelthar's lap.
One afternoon, Kaelthar found them all baking in the kitchen—flour everywhere, Kunou giggling, Koneko deadpan with a smudge of chocolate on her cheek.
"We made snacks," Koneko said seriously, handing him a crooked cookie.
Kaelthar took a bite and smiled. "Perfect."
Later that night, as the stars shimmered above their new world, Kaelthar stood quietly by the lake.
Rias came to him once more.
"You always come out here when everyone's asleep," she murmured.
"I listen," he said softly. "To the flow of this place. To the echoes beyond."
She leaned into his side. "Are you afraid?"
He glanced at her. "Not when I'm with all of you."
She looked up at him. "Then stop holding back."
He turned—and their lips met.
Soft. Sincere.
A promise more than passion.
And in the house behind them, the girls watched from the window, not with jealousy, but with knowing smiles.
This was home.
And Kaelthar… wasn't just the Guardian anymore.
He was theirs.
