The cold night air made the city feel utterly silent. Behind the old church, the path was even more deserted – ancient stone walls, broken crosses, and the faint marks of burnt-out torches.
Ryu stood at the front, his face as calm as ever. Elira stood just behind him, her eyes reflecting a mix of worry and curiosity. Kael held his sword at the ready, while Saren sat casually on a small rock, making no attempt to hide the smirk beneath his mask.
Saren hopped down and walked toward them.
"Right on time. The way down is through the church… but it won't be simple. There's an old locking mechanism that needs to be… well, broken."
Kael glared at him.
"You mean stolen into and broken."
Saren chuckled.
"Call it whatever you want. Just keep quiet while I'm working on it"
Ryu looked straight into Saren's eyes and simply said,
"Do it fast."
Inside the church, the air smelled of age – damp earth, faint burnt wood, and a chilling coolness. The torchlight was dim, making the surrounding darkness feel heavier.
Saren found a small compartment in the floor and began working on the lock with his dagger. His fingers moved quickly, precise and practiced. Elira glanced at Ryu and whispered softly,
"We're… trusting him? Are we sure this is right?"
Ryu looked at her and gave a faint smile.
"We're not trusting him. We're trusting necessity."
And then, a soft click echoed. Saren stood, lifting the small floor panel. Beneath it was an old staircase descending into darkness.
Saren grabbed a small torch, smirking.
"Welcome to the catacombs."

The path below was darker and damper than above. Ancient writings covered the walls, old burial markings carved into the stone, and in some places, broken skeletons lay scattered. Elira tried to steady her breathing, a faint fear glinting in her eyes. Kael walked at the rear, every step alert.
Ryu led the way. His every step was measured, calculated—like a player moving through a game, anticipating every trap.
For a while, only silence filled the air, broken by the faint crackle of the torch. But then… a strange smell crept through the air – not just the stench of decay, but something else, something unnatural, like something living was rotting.
Elira covered her nose slightly and whispered,
"Something's… wrong here."
Ryu lifted his head, scanning the walls. For a brief moment, that familiar coldness flickered in his eyes.
"Yes. We're not alone."
And then, from ahead, a horrible sound echoed – like chains dragging across stone. Saren quickly lowered the torch and muttered,
"That sound… I've never heard anything like it."
Two glowing eyes appeared in the darkness – not human, something else. Slowly, its face emerged – half-rotten flesh, its body larger than any human, and its teeth long and razor-sharp.
Elira took a step back, and Kael instantly raised his sword.
Ryu stood still, the old, faint smile returning to his face.
"So… the real game begins now."
And then the creature lunged at them…
