A Nerd’s Best Friend (1)

The next morning Amethyst decided to stay in for the day. Although, she knew if she stayed home, there were a chance that she would get into another entanglement with her roommates. With a brief yawned she rolled over on her side finally coming to the decision that, she rather stayed home with the husky and dobermann, than deal with any more of those ill-temper ankle bitters outside.

Around three in the afternoon a girl in her teens arrived at the apartment complex, where Amethyst lived, for a surprise visit. This young girl had multicolor hair, which was tied up in a high ponytail, adorned in a pair of torn jeans, a decorative skull t-shirt and lastly a plaid hoodie.

Now standing in front of apartment 206, the young girl gently knocked on the door repeatedly, while blowing bubbles with the piece of gum that she was chewing. A few moments later the door popped opened.

The person standing in the entry way of apartment 206 was not the girl's best friend like she expected. This person also did not look like her bestie's older brother, so the person in front of her could only be one of the rumored relatives, that was currently living with her bestie. Looking up at the man's handsome face and nice build, he had a young appearance of someone that was in their late teens or early twenties. He also stood at a decent height towering over the young girl who was only 5'5". To the young girl he looked like one of those tall, coldhearted hotties straight out of a cliché romance novel.

"Hello, how may I help you?" asked a young man staring down at the young girl with a hint of coldness in his eyes.

"Hello. My name is Xella…Is Amethyst home?" Xella asked the cold person in front of her with a smile.

The young man nodded at Xella before stepping aside to open the door wider. "I'm Joel. Amethyst is in her room resting. Would you like me to take you to her?" he asked gesturing Xella inside.

"Yes, please," Xella said with a smile.

Even though Xella and Amethyst were best friends, they never actually been inside each other's homes. Besides seeing each other at school, they would always meet up at the Willow Park nearby if they wanted to hang out.

Joel quietly closed the door behind Xella after she walked in, then he led her through the apartment to Amethyst's bedroom.

Xella was quite shocked by how ordinary the inside of her friend's apartment looked like once she was inside. For a fantasy nerd there were nothing that screamed *this is Amethyst's home*, her older brother clearly was the main decorator of their apartment.

Without even knocking, Joel opened Amethyst's bedroom to let Xella in. Xella found his actions to be rude. 'Was it really okay for him not to knock. Personally, I don't feel comfortable walking straight in without permission, even though we are bestie,' she thought before slowly peeping her head into the bedroom.

Inside the bedroom her bestie lifted her head when she noticed her door being pushed opened without a warning knock, which filled Amethyst's eyes with hostility until she saw the head peeping in. Her expression changed almost instantly to a happy yet frighten one. 'Xella is here. Yay! Goodbye boredom! ...wait a second...Xella is here? Oh, crap Xella is here! Crud what am I gonna do. Eris is not here, right? Please let that mad dog be out on an outing or something,' Amethyst spoked internally as she displayed a delightful smile on her face.

Xella returning the same delightful smile then said politely, "Amethyst, sorry for not texting you beforehand. I hope I'm not disturbing you?"

"No…. not at all. Come in. Come in and sit down," responded Amethyst standing up to grab hold of her bestie's hands.

Xella responded with "Okay," as she was being pulled over to the bed in the room. Xella looked around Amethyst's room at all the fantasy posters on her wall, then towards the two bookshelves one filled with books and the other with small figurines, the framed drawings on the dressers and many adorable plushies on her bed. 'Yes, now this is what my fantasy love-crazed bestie room should look like.'

Once Xella was seated on the bed, Amethyst walked back over to the door to pop her head out. When she looked left then right, she eventually was met with a pair of cold, yet alluring eyes stared back at her.

"Joel, is Eris here?" she asked in a whisper.

"No," he uttered in a soft tone, leaning up against the wall of the hallway.

"Good. If he comes back, keep him in the living room please," she pleaded slightly while pouting.

"Okay," he conceded obediently even though his face had an indifferent expression displayed.

Amethyst smiled back at Joel happily, then she ducked back into her room shutting the door behind her. Seeing that the door to his benefactor finally closed, Joel walked back into the living room to see what he could find on tv to watch.

Xella looked up from the book she was reading, that she snatched off Amethyst's bookshelf, once Amethyst shut the door to her bedroom. A grin then crept on Xella's face at this moment. "Amethyst you didn't tell me your cousin was so hot. He has one of those cold and rich boys' vibe. Oh, or one of those loyal servants that is expressionless no matter what the task is, they carry them out perfectly," Xella said excitedly.

Amethyst laughed at Xella's comparison. "You right, he does have a cold and reserved type of personality sometimes. Usually he does wear an indifferent attitude, which leads to him ignoring me sometimes, so he's not a loyal butler type. Also, you know I'm only interested in 2D guys, so I never paid much attention to his looks before," Amethyst explained kneeling down on the bed to sit, then she folded her legs one over the other.

"His hair is long though. You love long hair. Have you not asked to play in his hair before?" Xella asked with a big curious grin.

"I have helped him towel dry his hair a few times. He hates drying it himself. He believes it's too much of a hassle to do," Amethyst said indifferently.

"And? How did it feel? Was his hair soft and silky? Thick and course….. Did it curl up while wet?" question Xella with a sly grin.

Amethyst rolled her eyes as she looked at her bestie's eager grin for more details. "Xella….when did you become such a gossip hog? You usually are not interested in anything romance related," she uttered trying to avoid all her bestie's questions.

"Your no fun Amethyst. I only asked since I know how much you like running your fingers through people's hair. You used to bug Lance by playing in his hair during break period. You even said you like how soft his hair felt on your fingertips," Xella said in a playful, matter of factly tone.

"I say that to just about everyone with nice hair. I would do the same to your hair, but yours do not interest me, plus you keep changing your hair color, so I rather not touch it," Amethyst explained as she twirled a few strands of her hair around one of her fingers.
