Magnus crossed the border into Deutschland. He was expecting a Deutschland soldier, but he was in the rural parts, not encountering anyone besides farms. His destination was in central Deutschland, but he was currently driving through the southwestern part. It would be around three hours until he got there, but Magnus wanted to do this at night.
There were no hotels near there, so he asked Amicus where the nearest lodging was to the research facility.
Amicus said, "The nearest house to there is about a twenty minute drive away. It is the only house in that area, so I recommend that you pretend you have gotten lost and need a place to stay for the night."
"Alrighty then!", Magnus replied aloud, no other cars yet on the road. The time was 7:00 when he started to see other drivers driving down the road.
Casually, workers drove off to their jobs to earn a living and support their family. Who knows what job they had. Maybe they were workers in one of the factories he was going to destroy.
"Schmitler brought this on them. It's his fault that these lives are being ruined.", Magnus thought, trying to coax his conscience into forgiving him, "It's not my fault. It's not my fault!"
Magnus' conscience was berating with constant thoughts of the civilian lives. Magnus could only bear the pain and do as he was told. Magnus realized that this was another hardship of a soldier.
"You're nearing the house. Only one person lives there, but many have slept there. Either the person in there is offering rooms for rent, or they're a massive playboy.", Amicus said, assuring Magnus that they were going the right way.
Magnus thought they might have gotten lost because it was taking so long to get there. The real reason for this was the constant breaks to get gas and for Magnus to "hit the head."
Magnus pulled onto a dirt road, convinced by Amicus that this was the right road. He saw a blue house in the distance. Told that this was the house that they were looking for, he pulled the car up to the house.
Magnus got out of the car and slammed the door shut. Assured that his blonde hair and blue eyes would camouflage himself well, Magnus went up to the door, shouting in Deutsche if anyone was there and that he needed help.
A grey-haired woman opened the door and asked Magnus what he needed from her. Magnus told her that he needed a place to stay. He was on his way to the New Roman Empire to pick up a jar of olives for his daughter's birthday, but got lost on the way. His car was out of gas, he told her, and he was going to fall asleep if he drove any longer because he had already driven the entire night.
The woman heard out his story, convinced that he was in need of a room. The lady told him that it would cost him the equivalent of 5 UPD a night. Magnus assured the lady that he would need the room for only one night.
Magnus ran back out to the car and grabbed his bag and headed inside. The woman asked if she could see inside of the bag, wanting to make sure that he wasn't in any shady dealings. Magnus complied.
Just a couple moments ago, Magnus pulled the explosives out of the bag and left them in the trunk of the car. That left only a blanket, some cash, and a pistol in the bag. The woman looked suspiciously at the pistol, wondering why a father would need one on a trip to the New Roman Empire, but didn't question it further, as stranger things have happened in these weird times.
The contents of the bag passed the test. She gave the bag back to Magnus, and told him that there would be a meal at 12:30, 7:00, and breakfast at 9:00, while she led him up to his room. Magnus replied an affirmation, and put his bag down, getting in the bed.
Having already conversed with Amicus the entire day, he didn't see Amicus in his dream void while he was asleep. Walking up in the middle of the night, Magnus went out to the car. He left the money on the woman's kitchen counter, and started the car.
As soon as the engine turned over, the lights turned on, lighting up the side of the woman's house and her lawn, showing Magnus that he had been surrounded by men with rifles.
"Get out of the car! Get on the ground!", a man shouted in Deutsche. Magnus was not going to betray his orders from the General and get caught a second time. Slamming the gas while in reverse, Magnus hit two bodies on his way to the dirt road.
Bullets ricocheting off of the car, Magnus pulled out onto the dirt road and switched into drive. Booking it as fast as he could, Magnus pulled off a sick drift onto the paved road and punched it. He looked into his rear-view mirror and saw three cars tailing him. And they were catching up.
"Amicus, what is the fastest route to the research lab?!", Magnus shouted, starting to feel the need for speed again.
"Magnus, you have to go straight. In about ten miles, you have to turn right. I'll tell you when to turn. After that, you will come upon the research lab after 20 miles.", Amicus responded.
Magnus put the accelerator pedal all the way down and sped off. The Deutschland cars weren't as fast has he was, but they had passengers with guns. Hearing the clack of bullets hitting his car and the road, Magnus started swerving side-to-side to throw off their aim.
Magnus realized that the subtle swerving was giving the other drivers a chance to catch up. Deciding that he would rather have a flat than be caught by the Deutschland military police, Magnus stopped swerving.
"Your turn is right here! Turn right... Now!", Amicus shouted. Without Amicus' constant support, Magnus would've been caught and chained up a long time ago. Turning right, Magnus threw the Deutschlanders off of his track. At least for the moment.
Going down the road for about fifteen miles, Magnus decided that he would hide the car.
"Amicus, please remember where the car is when I come back.", Magnus asked, not wanting to walk back to the General on the front lines.
Magnus parked the car in a dense thicket. He started towards the research facility with the bag on his back, now full of explosives again.
"How did they not hit any of the explosives in the trunk? I should've been blown sky high! Maybe it was because they were shooting at the tires and didn't know that I had explosives...", Magnus thought, as he was slowly approaching the big building.
