Crynn POV
"Wake up!" I heard a sound right beside me, who is disturbing my beauty sleep. I ignored him and snugged further into my comfy sleeping bag, snoring once more. I felt a smack to my head, I opened my eyes and pulled my sword bringing it up, "Who do you think you are!" My eyes are still dimmed from being woken up so suddenly and I can't perceive who it is in front of me.
"Whoa easy there, we need to get ready quick, can't let the others start ahead of us," that voice, O'Connell, I swiped my eyes a few times before gently opening it, I looked out the makeshift tent and saw only the light of the moon, yellowish-blue and lunar bright but no sun in sight. "What're you playing at O'Connell, it's not even dawn yet, there's no sun!"
"If you'd focus on the surroundings and not on the sky then you'll know what I'm talking about!" O'Connell twitched and I involuntarily looked out once more to find a lot of men running around packing things up. "Fine! Now off you go!" I pushed O'Connell out the tent and zipped the door tight.
'First day, no shower, no cleaning instant adventure," I grumbled a few times, changing out of my sleep wear and into my new clothes of the day. The day before, I picked a nice white shirt and green cargo pants from O'Connell's great selection of clothing. this briefcase is starting to get real annoying, so I modified it by using a long strip of cut leather, attaching it to the handle and covering the entire body of the case with cloth.
Now it looks like a large pouch hanging from my shoulders. Thankfully as there's 'nothing' in the briefcase, it hardly weighs a pound. Grabbing a few dozen galleons from my 'pouch', I stored it in a smaller bag placed beside my sword. One thing I still need and that's a gun. I checked everything twice ensuring that everything is safe and secure, no problems to be found.
I finally opened my tent and got out, O'Connell just outside the tent, haggling with a camel renter or seller, not sure I've never been to the dessert before and I don't know anything about deserts. Staying close with O'Connell would ensure my desertly safety. "200! No no 200!" O'Connell and the seller started shouting at each other, saying 200 or 300 or 250. I've no time for this nonsense, I grabbed five galleons and went right up to the seller.
"5 camels!" And stuffed into the hands of one frowning seller, five pieces of shining gold coins. Nodding fervently and thanking me as a God, he quickly gave us five leashes attached to five healthy, mighty camels. I do know that camels are a better choice than horses in the desert, horses would waste too much water.
"What are you doing! Wasting all that for five camels!" O'Connell shouted and looked disdainfully at me, I rubbed my head thinking that this would be worse that Harry Potter. "I don't have time for your bartering nonsense! Now! I need to buy a gun!" I shouted back at the fierce protagonist and he put his hands up in exasperation. "Calm down, cool and collected. You can buy your guns there," He pointed towards a bigger tent and I looked back at him, narrowing my eyes.
I walked towards the big tent, looking around to see horses stabled and set ready for the journey and tents being packed up rapidly. I approached the outside of the tent and went in, a table, multiple boxes and an old man sitting a chair. "Ah! Are you her to buy anything," the old man is wiping an impressive looking customized rifle, not what I'm looking for, but still magnificent.
"A pistol and a gun strap, a couple of grenades would also do nicely if you have some," I looked around, a lot of boxes but nothing on display, the guns are probably in the boxes. By what I can see, these boxes seem military grade. "Just call me old John, I have here an Mle. 1950, 9 rounds in the mag, 19 millimetre bullets and an effective range of 50 meters."
I gripped the gun on my hands, nice grips, I tested the iron sights, stable, pressed the trigger a couple times, no lag. I nodded at Old John, doesn't look like a John, I don't think Egyptians have 'John' for a name. "Sadly, no hand grenades you'll see nowadays but I still have an old-fashioned one," his eyes seems to be in reminiscent of something as he opened a crate and fished out three wooden rods with big black ends.
"These are Stielhandgranates, courtesy of the Germans in World War 2," He put the vintage grenades down on the table. These are weird grenades to say the least, no pins, how does it explode. "How am I supposed to use it?" I looked over the grenades and still can't find a clear way to use it. "It doesn't need a pin, throwing it and landing it on the black would suffice as the force of the throw will cause the explosion, it's the reason why it isn't used anymore."
Well that's strange, just a throw and it'll explode, well this is really dangerous. "This is the gun strap, enough for the Mle, four of its magazines and three Stielhandgranates on the slots," I nodded again and again, this is a fruitful visit. I grabbed 5 more galleons of my smaller pouch and placed them on his table. Old John's eyes seemed to glisten for a second and smiled at me nodding.
I'll let that be a clear indication that I've bought everything, I strapped the strap on my hips and placed the gun and its mags in the right spots, the three grenades however can wait inside my briefcase until its necessary. I just gained over 3 pounds of weight in my hips from the gun and magazines, this will affect my agility but it's also absolutely necessary to bring gun on this journey.
I exited the tent and saw in the distant dunes, light seems to have finally shown its side. "Avter! Come on you're late!" I see O'Connell and the rest of the team, straddled on the camel humps. Ahh, truly a start of an adventurous journey.
