Crynn POV
As the wall started to separate and the ground beyond descending, O'Connell with a flashlight began flashing it down towards the deep dark stairway. "Are we going down there," Jonathan being the usual coward started stammering as he cowered behind O'Connell. "Yes we are, or I am unless you'd like to join me."
That is one very attractive offer that I can't refuse, to seek thrill and the unknown is always addictive and what do they say, you only live twice. O'Connell too nodded as we began descending into the dark. "So, why didn't Volturi send after you," The Volturi must not like this guy if no one went looking for him.
"Actually, I'm to blame for that. I love travelling and foremost, collecting. I guess the bad habits piled up as I've never informed anyone that I would be going somewhere. For all the Volturi know, I might be gone for 50 years and still not come back. The time I went on my voyage took me 100 years before I returned. Honestly, they must be numb."
Ferrous chuckled as we continued downwards, damn this stairway potrays the abyss, we're going down with no end in sight, how did the Egyptians manage this, they truly have a mind of architectural marvel. "Stop," Ferrous held his hand up, signalling for a halt as he looked further with his eyes, which I'm guessing is both diurnal and nocturnal.
"Everyone evade!" He shoved everyone to the right and left as a shine of yellow went past my eyes and to the stairs behind me, a gold spear piercing the ground and deeper into it. We looked on as a statue man charged up the stairs. Ferrous pushed his hand and a force field surrounds the statue, pressuring him to stay lie down on the stairs.
I got my pistol out and shot the blue stone on the neck, a second of blind blue light later, only the statue remained and another ghost talking crap to me. "Well, there's surprises everywhere right?" Ferrous tried lightening the mood but ultimately failed when everyone tensely walked down the stairs.
"Is that it," O'Connell had his head forward as he is trying to see what seems like another entrance to some place else. "Is it just me or is it getting harder to breathe," Jonathan flapped his hands producing wind to cool him down, it's incredibly hot down here, also harder to breathe. "We're getting on a lower level from ground level, its normal for oxygen to be scarcer."
Evelyn loosened her collar as she began panting for a bit, I've seen a couple of documentaries explaining how dangerous it is for miners to go down into the caves to mine. It's not just a matter of oxygen dereplensishment, its also a matter of structural integrity, which I trust the Egyptians to have.
"Then we must breathe less and also reduce the number of actions we do," I stated as we went near the entrance and what's inside? Pitch black. Even the flashlight's not doing much work to the room. "Do I pull this lever?" We all turned towards O'Connell, his hands on an old cranky lever. "Give it a flik," O'Connell nodded and pushed the lever down, that's when the magic happens.
The whole room lighted up and as we looked around and up, we saw clearly that we are in a room, the height of at least 100 meters and a diameter of give or take 50 meters. "Giant Luminescent Gold Crystal!" Ferrous looked shocked as he pointed upwards towards the ceiling where an impressive looking gold crystal emitting such strong rays of light, hanging from a ceiling.
"And what's that," Evelyn looked confused and a bit bewildered, I've never heard of something like that myself, looks... grand. "That is a very rare crystal that could produce individual light out of nothing anywhere, the last time I saw one of those was in China over 500 years ago, and that's only the size of a pebble!"
Needless to say, the vampire looks quite excited as he pulled out a small leather hand book from one of his pockets and a fountain pen which I am not sure even worked anymore. As guessed, the moment he opened the book and tried to write, the ink was no more. "Do anyone have a pen or a pencil perhaps," Ferrous looked around and asked.
Before anyone could answer, the mid 20 meter diameter, started to sink as the ground we are on started to lower. "What's happening!" Evelyn shook her head as the lowering stopped and a long staircase down ensued after the ordeal. "Is that it," Jonathan said as a large growl sounded throughout the entire chamber as a giant Anubis statue came to life as it got up from its knees and stared at us with unhidden rage.
Jonathan! You damn Jinx! The statue standing 50 meters above the ground growled louder and brought his hand down, trying to crush us. Shite! This is so not how I want to end. Just as I thought everything's inevitable, a force stopped the incoming hand as I looked to my right, Ferrous is struggling to stay hold, "Go! Try to find any possible weaknesses!"
We ran down the stairs as Ferrous forcefully swiped the giant hand right as it hit the walls and crumpled it under the sheer force. The giant bellowed angrily as it stared at Ferrous with much more rage than ever. "We need to find a weakness!" This is getting bad real soon, real quick, we need to think of something otherwise, everyone's dying today.
"How about the structure! It's not made of metal!"
"We have no explosives except for a few outdated grenade!" C4? I've still got some but there's no way I'm using it unless we got no choice. And furthermore, although its not made of metal, there's no guarantee that's its material would be weaker than metal, maybe its even stronger.
"That! On its back!" as the statue turned around to toss another slap on Ferrous, poor vampire, I could see a large blue crystal rock covering half his neck, Evelyn you genius! Lifesaver! "Ferrous! On his neck! There's a blue crystal! Try to destroy it!" he grunted loudly as he evaded another close hand stomp, this is goddamn frightening.
O'Connell shot a few shots on the back neck only for some ricochets to happen and worst of all, the statue turned its menacing eyes onto us. "Oh shite," if bullets do nothing, then we are truly f*cked!
