Crynn POV
"I think its time we head back up," O'Connell proposed clearly contented by his gains as he shoved the coins, gems and jewelry he stole from the tomb, I mean, if the guy's kind of dead, its not a problem to take some stuff. "Right, let's go back from where we came from," I marched from the tunnel as I wished to never enter any ancient ruins again ever.
I won't even bother with the gold spear I shoved up the giant's neck, there are plenty in the semi-dome room. As we walked up the stairs and into the tunnel, I'm already too tired to even open my mouth. I need a drink and a quick nap, how nice must it be for vampires to not only not need to sleep, but also having easily replenishable energy.
The only downside would be you have to drink blood which I reckon taste as good as human-made food. I think drinking blood for 3000 years would really make your tongue numb to any other susceptible taste. Reaching the semi-dome, I picked up one of the spears and continued on. But I have to admit, this is a bit awkward.
No one is speaking, it's a silent journey throughout the way. I looked back to see everyone except Ferrous a small droopiness on their eyes. They're all sleepy and I am also sleepy, I really hope nothing eventful happens after this.
We finally have reached the room we fell into the first time we're here, no to let Ferrous do his thing. "Ferrous, can you tear down that wall and make a ramp up," I said pausing slightly at every word, being lethargic sure will put our minds and actions into snail-like proportions. Ferrous moved us out of the way and tore down the rotating wall and used it as a small ramp up.
As we climbed out of the room and into the familiar large corridor with a side walk on the right and a half pillar on the left. Finally! Juts one more area to go through and we'll all be snoozing till the sun sets. "ARG! ARG! Get this off me!" I heard a rather familiar shout coming from the right side as I see a plump figure running and shouting with histerics as he continue slapping his own skin.
What is it this time? I sighed as I saw the face of the figure, the traitor, Warden! I'm not helping a guy who leaves his companions in a fight. I saw him dropping to the ground right in front of us yelling in pain as his hand kept slapping his neck. I quickly saw something creeping from the inside of his skin as it made its way to his forehead.
A bit of continued shouting later, Warden dropped lifeless as a small pop appeared on his forehead and a beautiful blue scarab covered in blood showed up like a mole. It jumped to the ground and without another second's notice, I stabbed my spear into that disgusting scarab. "Is he dead," Evelyn went wide eyed as she covered her mouth with one hand.
That must be her first experience in seeing something die, I too am like that. The earliest time I saw someone die right in front of me wasn't as peaceful as this one, it was quite unsettling. But after seeing people die more than thrice, it all comes as normal. What is life without death, that's just the rule of the universe.
O'Connell went ahead and gripped Warden's dead arms with one hand and placed two fingers on the veins. "He's dead, no pulse running," well snitches get them ditches right? I'm a firm believer of karma, and I think this guy certainly has the bad end of that. "Ferrous, you can always suck a dead man's blood," I gestured towards Warden, at least his 'blood donation' will be worth something.
"Are you serious Avter?" Evelyn seems very offended, I guess traditionally, it is very impolite to desecrate a corpse. But when I think about it, the corpse is dead, and the dead has no attachments to the living. That's what I learned in philosophy class. "He's dead Evelyn, rather than letting him be eaten by scarabs, we could just donate all his blood to our resident vampire."
"But still..." Evelyn stammered and tried coming up with a logical explanation until O'Connell cut her off. "I personally think that Avter is right Evelyn, just leave it as it is," he placed a hand on Evelyn's shoulders as she let out a small 'hmph' in defiance but there's no complaint anymore so... "Ferrous, you can do as you like."
The vampire nodded and bent down to approach Warden's fat neck. As he opened his mouth and bit into it. Slowly but also quickly, the body began shriveling as the face and the skin all lost colour and began becoming pale white. And finally after the dead is done, I can deduce how dry the corpse is especially with the very pale peach white color which only serves to further amplify the dryness as if it were dry old chalk.
"Well that's an eye full," I looked with fascination, to easily suck out all blood (Humans have an average of 1.2-1.5 gallons of blood in them) from a human in a matter of around half a minute is incredible. Have vampires got natural vacuum cleaners in their teeth. Evelyn looked bewildered as do Jonathan and O'Connell, they have no words to say but to stare.
They look like they want to puke seeing a full corpse dissolve into what remained. "Average blood with way too much fat," Ferrous took out a piece of napkin and wiped his bloody mouth off with it. And average? I didn't know vampires have a blood classification. I guess Warden's just not healthy enough.
O'Connell sniffed as he wiped his nose of some itch as he went in the room where Henderson found the book and a bunch of pots. I didn't think I noticed before, but there is a very big opening to the outside, clearly from the use of dynamite. I am finally out! I ran all the way out to the sun as I kneeled down kissing the ground and praising the Gods for their protection and vice versa.
Now, time to have a big long rest!
