Crynn POV
[She will be your knew companion! I'm sure you're very excited and so does she. Now, I'm afraid I have a meeting in 10 and so I'll leave you two to it. Chat, introduce yourselves, increase your chemistries, good team work will always result in a successful mission. I need to hurry, I don't want my wages cut.]
The voice interjected and it just went away...leaving me and an unfamiliar woman together how am I supposed to proceed. I looked at her and she looked at me as the awkward air continued to grow. "Isn't it rude for a man to stare so gapingly towards a woman?" The woman opposite to me decided to start the conversation with a joking flair, her lips tilted upwards in a tease.
"I do believe it's a sin to stare away from such a beautiful woman," I don't know what came into me but that very unnecessary sentence was just released by myself! "Tch, glib tongue," her smile grew and a small giggle escaped her lips. Overall, I'm just relieved she isn't offended by my sudden flirt? Is it even a flirt?
"Where are my manners, My name Crynn Avter," I stretched my hand out in an attempt to shake hers up. "Ariane Veil, perhaps you've heard of me," she took my hand and I softly shook hers but I've never heard of the name, is she a celebrity, surely such a beauty would came to mind. "I can see the gears in your head turning," she notices my confusion and chuckled.
"I don't blame you, I'm an athlete specifically an archery athlete. Gold medalist in the Olympics and current Guinness records holder for 11 broken records," she smiled with charm and pride whilst introducing herself and well, it certainly took me in the shocker. It's not easy, not easy at all to win anything in the Olympics and I'm guessing it's even much more difficult to break 11 records.
"That's incredible Ariane, may I call you Ariane?" I'm serious when I said it's incredible, I doubt I could even achieve a medal anywhere, maybe if there's a lockpicking Olympics. "Call me Aria but only if you'd let me call you Cry (Pronounced Krī. Just making sure no one mistakes it for Kree when it should be Krī)."
"Of course Aria. So... you're an expert with a bow," I spoke out my opinion and she, in turn responded back with an unexpected answer. "It's master with a bow unless you could find someone whom could shoot an arrow with accuracy at a moving target 1000 feet away," she smirked and I was immediately shocked for the second time!
1000 feet?! That's around 300 meters! And did she say accurately at a moving target?! I ain't gonna underestimate ever again, that's is freaking awesome! "Wow, I can say, I'm very awed. Although my profession isn't as noble as yours, it earned me a nice manor and a surplus of cash. I'm a lock picker, safe cracker and vault breaker normally employed by all kinds of companies to test their security systems. But, my side profession is as a professional thief."
"Oh! You surely don't look the thieving type, you look like a second generation rich adult that actually donate millions to charities every year," that's a surprising judgement. "Well, I do donate to charity but yeah, I stole tens to hundreds of precious and invaluable jewels occasionally artwork and a Michelangelo sculpture once, never going back to Vatican City after that one."
The beauty, Aria, grinned, which is not what I expected. "Well that's great than! I can foresee our prominence together in the future, just imagine what a thief and an archer could do in conjunction," she excitedly blurted out, her eyes turned to crescents, seemingly delighted. "I'm also a swordsman," or at least I'm a newly acquired swordsman, still very much gratified by my extreme luck on the box and the lottery!
"Well then that's double the fantastic!" She laughed and I laughed as well. So far, we've gotten off to a very good start! "So, I reckon that the voice has briefed you about this whole situation?" I inquired. "Yes that voice has indeed informed me of my death and how I'm honorably chosen by Jesus to join you and complete missions in fictional worlds, is that all? Still can't believe Jesus actually existed, I'm actually a proud agnostic."
"Who wouldn't be shocked to realize that God, pagan or not, all existed. Anyway, I think that's about everything. Shouldn't you get a newbie package?" She looked a bit muddled now, I can guess what she's thinking. "Try saying 'open newbie package', you can say this in your mind or from your mouth," she raised a brow and nodded, soon enough a package with a paper written 'Open Me' glued on top.
"Ooh, what's this?" she's rather thrilled and opened the package in a hurry. The moment the package disappeared from my view or just any view, her eyes instantly sparkled like a billion stars in the night sky complete with all the ancient and modern constellations with the necessary galaxies and nebulas.
"So, what's did you get?" I myself am quite curious but seeing her reaction, whatever she received must be quite good. "4 gold bars and a 'Magic Archery Skill Book'!" If there weren't anyone in this space, I can bet a thousand dollars that Aria would jump up in happiness. Magic archery? Such a fitting skill book for her.
"Apparently, this 'Magic Archery Skill Book' gives me the ability to directly shoot magic arrows from any bow! Magic arrows! This means that I won't need to carry a quiver with a stack of arrows everywhere! Do you know how convenient that is! Not just that, but it's magic! MAGIC arrows!" She can't stop emphasizing the magic but I can understand her exhilaration.
"Good for you then! Is there anything else?" She seemed to contemplate for a while before looking straight at me and turned her head to the left and to the right, nothing else it seems like. "Wait a minute, I have a spare bow that you might be able to use," I rummaged through the pile of items in my brief case, I need something more practical than a stiff briefcase, maybe a leather shoulder bag would be better.
"Aha! Here it is!" I slowly pulled the item out and passed it over to Aria whom gently and decisively caught it. Holding the item in her hand, it is actually a bow! The two limbs of the bow are curved in a way that would fit any archer and the string is as smooth a silk and as rigid as any modern bow string. Lastly, the entire body of the bow is plated in gold with some parts made in obsidian.
'This is a spectacular bow, although traditional, everything about it makes it better than modern recurve and compound bows! Where did you get this?" I shocked her with the bow huh? I don't know bow anatomy so I couldn't judge whether the bow is actually a nice or not. "Hamunaptra, the city of the dead, that's where I got it."
And her jaw dropped.
