Story of Death

Crynn POV

"It was a commission, an expensive one, one enough to push me and my team into fame around the mercenary circle. It did, but it also lost me my two dearest friends and a lot of my sanity... kind of," that's disheartening, but I guess that's the risk mercenaries will have to put up with in that sort of business, danger roaming everywhere, can't really get a time to relax.

"My team's job, including me, is to snatch a top secret Arasaka tech called an engram. An engram is a device, or chip, or databank that stores the whole life time memory of someone and at this someone's time of death, the engram will be taken out to be inputted into another body. Essentially, a tool for rich corporates to live forever."

"Most of the engram chips are kept safely in japan in the hands of Arasaka while one chip managed to sneak their way to Night City. Through Yorinobu Arasaka, a famous rebel of the Arasaka family, gave up the lavish life of the rich and made a yakuza group in Japan. Apparently he stole the chip to be unknowingly sold to the American devils, in his father, Saburo Arasaka's words."

"Me and my team managed to make it through a lot of obstacles into the hotel penthouse where Yorinobu is staying on and where the chip is hidden. What we ultimately did not expect is for Yorinobu to suddenly appear and for his father to suddenly land himself on the helicopter's helipad either."

"Thankfully, at that time, we managed to find a safe enough hiding spot and I witnessed the worst possible incident to occur. Yorinobu Arasaka chocked his father, Arasaka's big boss to death which is not a good thing at all. We tried to escape with the prize but was found and shot down. The engram was damaged and my friend decided to take drastic action by plugging it into his access port," V pointed to the side of her temple where there is actually a built in electronic port!

Has the future advanced this far to be able to insert USB flash drives next to the brain? "We had to fight our way down the over 100 floors hotel which is a nightmare and in the end, my friend died. Not a very happy moment but a commission's a commission. I had to plug out the engram from his head and inserted it into my head to safekeep it."

"Unfortunately, my commissioner betrayed me at the last moment and practically almost killed me. My systems put me into hibernation mode for internal repairs which worked to some point. I woke up damaged, my systems all under fire, red light flashing internally and my vision is as hazy as f*ck. To find myself in the big garbage landfill outside of the city is maddening, I value being clean."

"I crawled out of the trash onto a clearing where oh my commissioner is talking timidly to a Japanese male who just so happens to be Saburo Arasaka's personal bodyguard on the night he's killed. I certainly did not think he would murder my traitorous commissioner before my very eeys and abducted me."

"Turns out, he was chased by a bunch of killer robots on killer motorbikes and was forced to wake me up to defend the him and me combined. We made it out and I lost my consciousness and finally had to be brought in to a ripper doc for repairs together with the Japanese bodyguard, his name is Goro Takemura by the way, cool guy."

"And that's how my life took a turn for the worst with a little good. In my previous critical condition, the engram see it fit to activate itself and during the whole duration after the heist and before the heist of Arasaka Tower, the engram is subconsciously trying to integrate itself with my mind which would kill me."

"And that is why the heist of Arasaka Tower even happened with the sole purpose of curing me of the engram as well as rob some of Arasaka's tech which we did. And in the process of plugging out the engram and its integration, I discovered that it's already too late, Although my mind is free, my body is not."

"When the engram is trying to integrate itself with me, it needs a forefront, that forefront is the DNA. My DNA will reject the engram and thus, the engram struck at my DNA first but also simultaneously dealing with my mind in the same time. And so I only lately discovered after the engram was removed that my DNA doesn't fit my mind anymore but ahs already been changed to fit the engram."

"And that is how I probably died, although my mind is alive, the soul is rejected out from the difference in genetic material. And now, I feel whole, I feel that I can take the world by storm! Hahahahahahahaha!!!!!" V suddenly laughed out loud like a total maniac. Has she gone mad or is this normal elated response?

"Right, the job, this scroll costs buckets of bills plus your life is now back to you. You are now in the job," Calian pressed on his words, emphasizing the word 'job' twice and also doing the indebted tactic of saying a sentence that literally means, you owe me a favor, now I'm here to call upon that favor.

"Just checking, this job offer is only extended to me, am I right?" Looks like she's ready to accept the job which is wonderful! "Obviously, we came this far for the one and only legend, yes it's only you," V looked flattered being called a legend by Calian who looks eager to hear the 'yes' come out of V's pretty little mouth.

"Okay, just to be sure here, I need to get my psyche back up from seeing all the shit I've never thought existed and to let a ripperdoc scan my body and do a full sweep, see if I will live longer than the previous expectancy," that's fine but just curious, what's a ripperdoc, I'm sure Aria and Jill can help us look that up later, but for now, we're finally done!

V is pretty much on our team already.
