Crynn POV
"Oh well... never mind," Jill grumbled seeing everything was solved by a single destructive shot at the podium console and the irony that she said it was going to take a while actually only spent a second to do. "What's this?" Calian gazed at the elevator, clearly confused as do I because this doesn't look like an elevator.
It's shaped like an elevator alright just not the elevator we were imagining it to be. On the elevator, locked in by multiple reinforcements to keep it stuck, is exactly seven human sized chambers, 6 of them parallel to each other while the seventh on the middle of the far side. These chambers contained restraints like one you would see in a roller coaster ride.
"Passenger seats?" V commented as it could very well be a passenger seat, though not a very orthodox one. "So?" I lowered myself onto the elevator with a single jump down and inspected one of the chambers, noticing a button on the right casing. As anyone with enough brains to do, I killed my curiosity by pressing on it, after all, who wouldn't press an insatiable red button!
Very obviously, the glass front of the chamber separated into three parts in a spread, revealing its interior. There's a seat, there's a restraint and a seatbelt though the seventh chamber does have a unique quirk, it has a small controller and screen connected to the inside of the chamber positioned as such that the eye can easily see the screen while the hand can accessibly be placed on the controller.
"Best guess, we go deep down while strapped inside the pods," it doesn't take a smart man to figure this out. Anyone with a normal brain and a fully functional eye can clearly suggest the same as Aria. There is also two large storage compartments to put our tools and equipment in when we couldn't in the chambers.
"And looks like someone needs to be operating this lift simultaneously from the center pod. Hmm... Jill?" Calian suggested as he pulled his mask up, shaking his head and tidying his hair, that looks better. "All right, let's store all our equipment in the storage containers and get in these pods, we have a job to do."
Jill, even if I've only known her for a few days, she's very charismatic, high on leadership and a dangerous fellow. We may be team mates in this mission but if said otherwise, she's a foe to really watch out for as does Calian, an agent is a man with many sets of skills and above a jack of all trades.
Oh well, stop the future premonitions for now, time to do this. I got into the pod and sat firmly on the padded seat, pulling the seatbelt over my waist and legs, locking them tight. "How do we get these restraints down?" V questioned while trying drag the restraint above her head forcefully but as does effort suggest an indirect opposition, the object did not budge.
"I'm under control of everything here. So everyone can place their arms on the side." Choot! The restraint fell over our heads and firmly in front of our chest as soon as both my arms were on their right and left. "Okay... What's next?" Aria shouted as she sat right in front of me, checking the restraint's safety by pushing it to no avail.
"Of course, windows closed," and our front glass doors came out to the front, securely clasped in place. "So everyone ready? I'll be starting descent, it starts with a normal timed countdown of ten seconds, from... now!" The glass in front of me lighted up displaying basic information about the current elevator and condition.
Integrity normal, depth level zero and clock at 10 then 9. Countdown has started, I have to say, I'm a little bit terrified of this. I normally shouldn't be as a thief where the job entails a lot of falling from heights and keeping ourselves stable down a building while also keeping speed up and outside awareness down.
But, yes there's always a but, a but concerning some past trauma. I've been to Disney Land, the one in Florida and I went on a ride I will never ever forget. That day, I almost died from a heart attack (Total exaggeration). All my friends have been saying and telling me to try out one of the attractions in the park, Tower of Terror, that day, I did not expect to really be terrorized.
The moment I stepped into the building and queuing, I've already felt a bad premonition and so it did happen. It was absolutely terrifying. Going up the elevator on the tower, then dropped down in a freefall. Not to mention, real fires happening artificially right in front of me. I lost part of my soul on that ride.
"Crynn, are you okay?" V must've seen my absolutely horrid look as she herself looked cautious and quite worried of me which is definitely touching. "I'm fine, just remembering bad old memories," I laughed it off as I got more and more anxious every second. "3... 2... 1...." Zeuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh? Okay? Ehm??? We're definitely falling at abnormal speeds because I can see the elevator wall panels slowly disappearing every so often. As well as the glass monitor displaying the speed of 1000 miles per hour which in itself is pretty impossible. And well, considering I don't hear anymore of the initial sound of the elevator descending, yup, we're really going that fast.
Faster than the speed of sound which is about 343 meters per second, 767 miles per hour. "Huh? 1000 miles an hour? I'm not feeling a single friction on my body," V called out by the pod's radio communication line. "Well, you should take in mind that the ones moving aren't you, but this elevator. Also, each pod has a self regulated gravitational stabilizer."
"It will track the situation of gravity outside the pod to be simultaneously applied inside the pod. Also, we're going so fast because this elevator aided by not only the growing gravitational force each mile we pass but also by downward magnetic levitation projected by the panels surrounding us!" Jill explained but there's something I don't get, how did she know all of this?
"And where did you learn all that?"
