It was the second day of Charlie's schooling in Maplewood High School. As usual, Granny Nancy cooked him a balanced breakfast so that he would have enough energy for the whole day. Granny Nancy watched as her grandson was busy stuffing his face with the food she had prepared on the table.
"Gosh, you're eating like a pig. Eat more slowly, will ya? What if you'll choke? And that bruise of yours, doesn't it hurt?" She boombarded him with questions as she washed the dishes that were piled up in the sink.
"Granny, it's just a small wound. Don't worry about me. I'm 18 already, you know," he giggled as Granny Nancy looked at him softly.
'He still hasn't changed since he was a child,' Granny Nancy thought to herself.
Granny Nancy was shocked when Charlie showed up to her with a bruise on his face the day before. She almost thought her eyes were deceiving her because of her old age.
However, Charlie had lied to her, saying that he fell off the stairs to avoid Granny Nancy from worrying too much about him.
After he was done eating, he quickly put on his shoes. As he was heading off, he waved at Granny who was watching over him from the door until he was out of her sight.
While he was on his way, someone had bumped into his shoulder. His body jolted from surprised so he turned his attention to the person. Charlie was immediately greeted by Evelyn who was patting on his shoulder.
"OH MY GOODNESS! I thought you were a thief! Don't ever do that again. That scared me so much, " he said with his hand clutched on his chest as he sighed in relief.
Evelyn sheepishly grinned at Charlie's shocked demeanor. It appeared that they both took the same path to school so they decided to walk there together.
It was quiet except for some cars passing by and Evelyn could not help but to catch herself staring at Charlie's face next to her. From his deep blue eyes to his pointy nose and smooth pink lips. This dude is perfect but was obscured by his square glasses.
'Wow, he's actually a really good-looking guy,' the thought of Charlie ran through her mind.
Charlie caught her staring and was wondering if he had something on his face. He gave her the 'what is it?' look and Evelyn was quickly brought back to earth. With her flushed cheeks, she cleared herself. To her luck, there was a cat walking beside him so she took the opportunity and said that she was looking at the cat. Charlie dumbfoundedly nodded.
They finally reached the school. Still feeling embarrassed, Evelyn thanked Charlie.
"Uhh, I need to go now. Thanks for accompanying me! Uh bye!" And from there, she ran off through the hallway.
Charlie grinned as he found her cute. Just as she was out of his sight, he made his way to class.
He entered the classroom where it was dead silent. No one had yet arrived except for Rebecca and an unknown guy. Probably a classmate that he didn't realize was there.
From just feeling Charlie's presence, the guy immediately greeted him good morning and reached out to shake hands with Charlie.
"Hey, are you the new kid?!" He started, sounding a bit too excited.
The guy smiled through gritted teeth. Charlie anxiously greeted him back. They both shook hands.
The unknown guy introduced himself as Brian. Looks like Charlie already earned another friend on his second-day school.
