Chocolate Cookies

Brian managed to go to school despite being late with the help of his mother. His mother had driven him straight to school with her beloved car. Once he had arrived, a familiar girl had caught his attention. In fact, Brian knew the girl very well. She was making her way past the front gate of the school. Brian thoughtless and walked out of the car almost immediately, trying to catch up with the girl. Yes, the girl was none other than the love of his life.

"BOO!" Brian teased. He had purposely tried to surprise Rebecca from behind. The poor girl jumped and instantly turned her whole body towards Brian.

"Hey! That's mean. I thought you were some weirdo trying to mess with me," she whined, mad at him for surprising her like that.

"Hehe sorry!" Brian apologized, smiling slyly in satisfaction. However, there was no expression on Rebecca's face after that. She continued to walk straight towards the class like nothing happened. Brian looked at her as she walked in front of him. He quietly followed her from behind. Suddenly, something caught Brian's eyes. Rebecca was holding a paper bag in her hand.

"What's in there?" Brian asked himself, curious as to what hid inside of the bag. He wanted to ask her about the bag but the area they were in stopped him from doing so. The hallway was filled with students talking to each other and it was very cramped for Brian to even walk beside Rebecca. Brian decided to be patient and ask her about the bag when they arrived in their class.

After a few minutes of walking and they finally arrived in class. Rebecca calmly walked towards her seat like usual. Meanwhile, Brian ran towards his seat and placed his bag very quickly. He immediately walked over towards Rebecca to ask her something. Rebecca who was sitting on her seat, looked at him with a puzzled expression.

"What's wrong?" She asked, still confused as to why he was in such a rush. Without wasting any more time, Brian immediately asked her the question he had longed to ask her.

"What's that?" he questioned, pointing towards the paper bag with his index finger. Rebecca fixed her eyes on the paper bag that he was pointing at and remembered something.

"Oh, this paper bag. Hold on," she replied before pulling out something from the paper bag. In the bag, there were two small containers and one big container. She then handed one of the small containers to Brian.

"Here, this is for you," she said while sending him a small smile. Brian's eyes shone as he looked at the container that was in her hands. He immediately grabbed the container from her in excitement. Coincidentally, Evelyn had walked into the classroom when Brian took the container from Rebecca. Rebecca noticed Evelyn's arrival and called for Evelyn to come to her table.

"Evelyn! Come here!" She yelled, trying to get Evelyn's attention. Evelyn who had just walked into the classroom, jumped after her name had been called. She instantly knew who it was from the voice and looked at her. She walked towards Rebecca's table, looking confused as ever.

"What's wrong, Becca?" She asked, worried if something bad had happened.

"This one is for you," Rebecca said while handing her a small container.

"What's this?" Evelyn once again questioned, a small smile made its way on her face.

"Chocolate cookies. Hehe, I made them yesterday out of boredom," Rebecca explained, shyly scratching the back of her neck. Brian who was standing there suddenly felt unsatisfied from the small container he had received. He then voiced out after silencing himself for a while.

"Who are you giving the big container to?" Brian asked, pointing at the container that was still sitting in the paper bag. Rebecca's face went red after the question had been asked. She then lowered her head, feeling shy all of the sudden. Evelyn immediately understood what was happening from Rebecca's behaviour.

"Is it Charlie's?" Evelyn boldly asked. Rebecca slowly nodded her head, still feeling shy from the questions. Brian who was watching her silenced himself. Jealousy grew inside of him as he continued watching her.

"Uhm, thanks Becca. Appreciate it," Brian thanked her while faking a smile. He then walked away from Rebecca's table back to his, suddenly feeling down. Evelyn started to wonder what was Rebecca's trying to do. After she had asked herself multiple questions all at the same time, she decided to ask something to Rebecca.

"Are you trying to confess to him?" Evelyn asked, trying to confirm her own assumption. Rebecca looked shocked after hearing the question came out of Evelyn's mouth. Her face became red once again.

"Hmm, I don't know. I feel like I wanna express my feelings using simple actions for now," Rebecca answered, feeling unsure. Evelyn wanted to say more but time stopped her. The bell rang indicating their first period had started. She then hurried back to her seat. Once she was back at her seat, she took a quick look over to Charlie's seat that was just next to her. She was confused as to why Charlie hadn't shown up yet.

"Is he late?" She wondered before pulling out her phone from her pocket without any of her classmates realizing. She then texted him a short message. "Hey, Charlie. Where are you?" She tapped on the 'send' button.

2 minutes had passed and Evelyn's message still hadn't been replied by Charlie. Suddenly, Mr. Dickson walked in the class. All of the students immediately stood up including Evelyn.

"Good morning, Mr. Dickson," they all greeted Mr. Dickson in unison.

"Good morning, students. You can sit down now. Sorry for being late, I had something important to take care of. Anyway, I'll be taking attendance now. Who's absent except for Charlie?" He asked, making the students curious as to why Charlie was absent for the first time. Evelyn was the first one to ask Mr. Dickson about Charlie.

"Excuse me, sir. Why is Charlie absent today?" She asked, a worried expression plastered on her face.

"Oh! His grandmother had called me just now. She told me that Charlie's not feeling well," he explained calmly. Evelyn who was listening to Mr. Dickson's explanation immediately felt shocked and grew more confused. However, she was not the only one confused in the classroom. Luna was also feeling the same way.

"He was fine yesterday though? It didn't even rain or anything," Luna and Evelyn coincidentally thought of the same thing at the same time. Meanwhile, Rebecca felt sad and dissapointed after hearing the news.

"So, Charlie's the only one absent for today? Okay then. Anyway, please open page 58 and read the first paragraph quietly," Mr. Dickson said, bringing the whole classroom ready to start learning for the day.

Suddenly, Kevin showed up in class gasping for air. He had probably ran his way towards the class. He was late to school that day so he apologized to the teacher before walking lazily towards his seat. Mr. Dickson then recorded Kevin's attendance. Meanwhile, Evelyn who had her eyes on Kevin, looked rather shocked and confused. But she quickly shrugged it off because Mr. Dickson was already starting the class and she wanted to pay attention.
