After getting home he simply plopped down on his bed for what felt like 10 minutes yet it was already 7 hours later. His dad had shook him awake to at least watch the second half of the Rams vs. Giants game.
"Logan I heard that McGee is playing so you better get up if you wanna watch him."
"Wait, what did you say?" he got up immediately " how far into the game are they?"
"It's halftime, Malachi already has a pick 6."
He ran out of the room to watch his favorite team, the Rams. He got to the living room and sat on the couch a couple minutes before the second half started and the score was only 10-3.
Jovanni McGee was a rookie CB with sky high expectations, Malachi Moore was in his 3rd season as a CB and had rocketed towards the top of the league, Trevon Moehrig was a veteran safety who was in his 7th season, and the best player was the 5th season lineman Jalen Ortiz.
This defense had left the opposing team with a 16-0 loss last week, they had come out thinking they were unstoppable and were shut up instantly. The rest of the defense was full of average players but the defense had no weak links like a bench player as a starting linebacker.
The only weak link was the offense, which was expected with a defense like this, they needed some money to pay them. This was also proven by how they only scored 3 points in the first half
The game had now restarted and it was kickoff which ended in a touchback, the defense came out onto the field with the beautiful jersey's number 30, 27, 33, and 96 in the order mentioned before. The offense looked ready for a second round of this battle, they came out with newfound energy and tested Moehrig on the first play.
Shotgun formation, one receiver on the left, three on the right, and a running back to the quarterback's left. It was play action, the receiver on the left ran a slant, the inner receiver on the right ran a 7 yard in. The middle receiver ran a post corner and the outer one who was the fastest ran a fly.
Playing a man defense, Moehrig had the man on the far right, McGee had the man on the far left, Moore had the man running an in and the other safety was covering the last one.
Commentator 1: Good snap looking down field but Ortiz is in his face way too quickly, he scrambles out of the pocket
C2: He looks short and tries to throw to his slant but is denied by McGee, great pressure and coverage
C1: I think that pressure by Ortiz is just unbelievable and way too much for the young quarterback
"Dad don't you think our defense is just too good"
"Don't get too cocky before our Eagles destroy you"
"I don't think they could even beat the Giants"
"Boden Walker can manhandle them"
"Must suck having to put your entire team on the back of a rookie"
"We'll see once we play"
C2: Its 3rd down after a 2 yard run by Edwards-Helaire, I'm surprised he got up after that hit by Ortiz the undersized d-linemen
C1: We've got plenty more football to go but this third down is crucial as a tone setter
C2: It looks like Moehrig has had his ankles broken on a comeback route this should be an easy throw
C1: But McGee who was covering the whip route comes up and picks it off, great recognition by the corner
He then ran it back 7 yards to the 30 yard line, this was like the story of the game and the defense was shutting them down
"Ortiz has another sack"
"Moehrig with a forced fumble"
"Moore has a great diving tackle"
"McGee with another big hit"
Final score:23-13
The defense let up 2 field goals while the offense threw a pick 6
Ortiz had taken off his helmet showing his mixed skin and messy brown hair, he was a pretty cheery guy and soon had the other teammates dancing on the field too. Even though it was not their home field they were treating it as such, lucky that a fight didn't break out.
