The Pain

"You want to throw a party?" Rain asked Momma, looking in disdain. "A costume party..." tonight" and you want Shaneil and I to do what?"

"Rain look, if you keep acting surprised, I might actually end up showing genuine concern about you," Momma replied sarcastily. "Are you going to participate or not?"

"We will!" Shaneil replied excited cutting Rain off. Rain glared at Shaneil still a little dazed. Momma wanted to--no was, throwing a costume party tonight. She wanted Rain and Shaneil to stand at the door and charge people for commission upon entrance. This way Momma could make extra money on the side was providing the crowd with entertainment. What Rain did not understand was why Shaneil and her had to be in it.

"So, all you two need to do is make sure that whoever comes inside is not drunk, or if they have kids take them upstairs to the playroom. If you run into any trouble then call, Reginald. Oh, and don't forget...collect the money. Got it?" Momma questioned while making the finishing touches to the dining room table.

Shaneil and Rain nodded their head making Momma give them a pat on the back before walking away to fix something in the kitchen. Rain almost forgot that Momma was not going to throw just any costume party she was going to throw a poker costume party. In which everyone could come. Meaning that this was going to be a long night for all three of them.

Shaneil was excited. In her head, they were basically acting as security which was something she always wanted to do. She loved these things and her height always gave her an advantage in the intimidation factor. So this was just an opportunity of a lifetime for her.

"Raindrop I'm so ready! Mom's is so cool for this, I swear that when I get home I'll have my Papa make her fresh homemade cookies from scratch. I can't wait to see the babies." Shaneil exclaimed jumping around excited. Rain laughed at Shaneils' antics. It was moments like this that reminded her why they became friends in the first place. Shaneil was just simply just a delight.

Rain grabbed Shaneil's arm and started to pull her towards the front door. "Sure, Shay whatever you say. Now come on, Momma's party is gonna start soon."

They maneuvered carefully through the satin pink ribbon that Momma had thrown all over the house in last-minute decoration and dodged Momma's ridiculously large customized Broadway hat. "I guess this means that Momma's going for that classic showgirl look again." Rain thought letting out a quiet groan. That meant that this poker party was gonna be a big one. Meaning that Rain and Shaneil would be at the front door for hours.

Up ahead, Rain saw Shaneil opening the front door and people started to walk in. They all were dressed very exotic and wearing their most expensive clothing, probably to impress Momma. Speaking of Momma, Rain saw her descending down the stairs slowly wearing a sleeveless red, open-backed, low V-neck, long dress with bold red 6-inch heels and her hair pinned up giving her an elegant look, and a fan in hand. Rain groaned even louder in despair.

Glancing around it looked as though Shaneil was having trouble with someone and needed help. Rain seeing this cracked her neck from side to side, shook out her hands to get them a bit loose, then made sure her shoes were tied. It was time for work.
