I'm fine

"Hey, you okay?" Tye asked Rain concerned. She was being really quiet since the incident earlier. Tye had tried to cheer her up but nothing worked so far. He was beginning to feel worried.

Rain was staring at the sun setting in the distance. "How could someone treat another person like that? Why would someone allow themselves to be treated like that? I don't understand." Rain thought-feeling down.

"Hey, it's getting late. I'm going to take you home now if that fine with you." Tye informed her. He was on a strict schedule and had to be home before 10 every day or else his Uncle would flip.

"Okay." Rain replied softly getting up. Tye and Rain headed to the car so he could drop her off at him. Although today didn't go exactly how he wanted it to, he still had a lot of fun. "So...we cool?" Tye asked Rain feeling guilty. He didn't know any of that was going to happen today and hoped she didn't blame him.

"Yeah, we're fine. I just- I don't know, but we are fine." Rain said shaking her head. The rest of the car ride was filled with silence as Tye dropped Rain off at home before heading out and leaving. Rain watched as Tye drove away with a heavy heart.

'Today was weird.' Rain thought unlocking the door and heading inside. She still had a lot of homework to do so for now she would just let it go.

Rain woke up covered in sweat that day. The night before the weather cast had said it would be hot almost 97°. Rain did not do the heat at all and was aggravated. The fact that the air conditioner was broken did nothing to ease the way she felt. She kicked the covers off of her feeling agitated and climbed out of bed.

She walked slowly towards the bathroom while still feeling a bit tired. She flipped on the switch and looked in the mirror and frowned. Her face was a mess. Her hair was tossed all around, she had bags under her eyes, and let's just not mention her B.O.

She glared at her reflection before looking away and grabbing her toothbrush. Her phone went off on the charger while she was just getting ready to apply toothpaste to her toothbrush. Rain let out a groan of annoyance and slammed her toothbrush down on the counter.

She turned around and walked back into her room and answered the phone.

"What?" She asked not in the mood. "Hey, Rain baby rise and shine. I'm coming over to pick you up now so be ready." Shaneil chirped happily.

Rain felt her eye twitch and shook her head a bit. "Why do I need to be ready? Where am I going?" She questioned wanting her to elaborate.

"We're going to the beach idiot. Remember, you're the one who suggested it in the first place." She said laughing at the other line.

Rain's eyes narrowed and she felt a headache begin to form as a feeling of protest started to set in. "No, I'm not going. Don't come over, I refuse. I changed my mind and--"

"I don't care. I'm already almost here and I am not turning all the way back around. Be ready in ten minutes or else I'll drag you out by your ear." Shaneil threatened.

Rain mentally rolled her eyes at Shaneils weak threat. "Sure, fine! I'll be ready. See ya." She said in fake enthusiasm before hanging up. Rain dropped her phone back on the bed and went back to the bathroom to finish getting ready.

Rain walked out of the bathroom feeling hollow but much better. Yesterday Tye had worn her out with all his questions. They had left the park because of the couple who were fighting. Tye had claimed it was making him uncomfortable and Rain suggested that they browse the city. That was basically how they spent the rest of the day and Rain was still exhausted from walking around.

That's the reason Rain doesn't want to go anywhere and why the beach completely skipped her mind. But nevertheless, Rain was ready to go. She had put on white shorts and a simple red tank top. She lingered around her room not wanting to slip on her sandals until Shaneil had arrived.

Since she knew that being in a car with Shaneil was a safety hazard itself. She took it upon herself to grab a small bag that contained a first-aid kit. Some might think that was a little extra but Rain knew better. She still had the scars.

Rain's phone made a ping sound snapping out her thoughts. She peeked over at it and saw a text from Shaneil saying that she had finally arrived. Rain grabbed her phone and unplugged it from the charger, before slipping on her sandals and grabbing some cash from her drawer.

She quickly walked down the stairs and locked the door before meeting again her grandfather's dark blue Chevy truck.

Rain climbed in and Shaneil immediately started bombarding her with questions.

"Where were you yesterday?" Shaneil asked, pulling out of the driveway. Rain shrugged and looked out the window.

"Places." Rain said simply.

"With who?"

"People."

"Who are these people?"

"..."

"RAIN!" Shaneil snapped when she finally figured out that Rain wasn't going to give her a straightforward answer. Rain let out a small smile. It was so easy to get Shaneil worked up.

"I was hanging out with someone okay." Rain said. Shaneil threw her a quick glare. Rain was really testing her patience.

Rain glanced back at shamans and laughed. "Okay fine I was with the new guy. No! We didn't go on a date or anything. It was just showing him around." She finally explained. Shaneil slammed on the brakes and Rain was glad she was wearing a seatbelt.

"Really, t-the hot n-new kid." Shaneil squeaked in disbelief. Rain smiled and nodded. Shaneil let out a squeal making Rain glare at her and cover her eyes.

"Sorry." She said sheepishly.

"Yeah, well it's not really a big deal. He just needed help around and since I just so happened to be the first person he spoke to that day...you get it." Rain said, turning back towards the window.

A car honked angrily behind them and Shaneil started driving again. You could tell by the expression on her face that she was not going to be letting this one go. Rain sighed and mentally started to prepare herself for all the questions and pestering.

She pulled out her earphones and placed them in her ear, before inserting them into her phone and playing music. She leaned her head back against the seat and closed her eyes trying to relax her mind. The beach probably was what she needed after all.

~°~

Rain was sitting on the sand by the shoreline. She let her fingers glide along the water, playing with the small ripples they made. It was peaceful and quiet. Exactly what Rain needed.

Shaneil was laying on a beach towel trying to get a tan. Even though Rain had told her numerous times that she didn't need one. Shaneil had a natural light golden brown tan but insisted that she was too pale. Rain didn't understand her sometimes. It was like talking to a balloon.

Rain felt her clothes soaking and looked up in surprise. She just got drenched from a small wave. She flared at the water outraged and childishly tried to kick it. Shaneil sat up and laughed at Rain when she saw what was going on.

"You look so ridiculous Raindrop. You have a piece of seaweed in your hair by the way." She said trying to hide a smirk. Rain glared at her and tried to ignore when Shaneil flipped her out.

"Dumb beach." She muttered, moving away from the water and going to Shaneils side. "I'm hungry, did you even pack anything to eat?" She questioned.

Shaneil raised her eyebrows and scoffed. "Awe, I suppose? Well, I didn't." Rain shoved her hard, making her go tumbling in the sand. Shaneil lifted her head and Rain laughed hysterically seeing sand covering her face and hair.

Shaneil gave Rain a dark look making her get up and run still laughing as Shaneil chased her down the beach, swearing vengeance. As Rain started to run she began to think about Darnell and how it would be way funnier if he was there. It was truly a shame the way life was set up for them. Sneaking around and hiding friendships truly did get exhausting. If only she could get Darnell and Shaneil to like each other.

Rain tripped and fell in the water squealing as it seeped in her clothes soaking her again. Shaneil stopped chasing Rain and smirked satisfied. "Ha! You know what say Karma is a-"

"Is that a shark!" Rain yelled cutting her off looking at the water Shaneil looked alarmed then let out a small laugh. "No, it's a rock idiot. Come on let's go get some food. I think your hunger is starting to mess with your head girl."

Rain got out of the water and followed Shaneil to the car freezing. She should have bought another set of clothes and she had sand in her sandals. But she guessed it was just too late. She got in the car and waited gratefully until Shaneil turned the heat on.

Rain glanced out the window and smiled. She was glad she went and as much as she didn't want to admit this to Shaneil. Rain did need this break.
