Rain, Sorry

"Okay, I'm sorry. Let's talk about something else. What have you been up to?"

Her mother threw her a grateful smile before walking into the living room. " Well, recently I closed another case." Rain rolled her eyes. "Something new please."

"Rude. Okay, well as you know I was in California for a couple of days and I finally got the chance to catch up with some old friends of mine. After the case, we went out to the spa and everything. It was so relaxing-- much needed." Said her mom taking a sip of her coffee. "Well at least someone's been enjoying themselves."

"And what is that suppose to mean?" Her mom questioned. Shaneil entered the room cautiously. " Y'all done? Cause if not...I can leave again. Just let me know!" she exclaimed hands up in the air. Rain and Mom laughed and some of the tension in the room eased. "Shay you are okay to enter. We are not fighting I promise." Rain said rolling her eyes.

Taking a seat on the couch Rain eased into the decorative pillows, getting comfortable. Although she didn't have the talk she wanted to with her mother, she could at least enjoy the time while she there for the present moment. After all, lately, her Mom has been more busy than usual. It's rare to get time with her at all. "So I'll ask again I guess. What have you two been up to in my absence" Her mom questioned?

"Well, my teacher has been saying that my poems are so good that he wants to move me to an honors class. I have been working as usual and that's about it." Rain said. "Honors? Look at my daughter! I knew it, you are so talented. Congratulations sweetheart." Her mom said smiling widely. Turning her head towards Shaneil she waited for her to speak next.

"Oh well, I have been being on my best behavior. I've been working on my anger. My Papa has me inside the house, learning how to cook with him. Actually recently, I have made this dish and I want to bring it over so you guys can try it." Shaneil said shyly. "I'm not the best cook but I think I found something that makes me happy."

Rain looked over at Shaneil surprised. This was news to her. Recently Rain has been busy with Tye and school. Not to mention Darnell's confusing behaviors. It was no wonder that she had absolutely no idea what was going on in her friends' lives at all. " I love that for you." Rain said happily while her mom nodded in agreement.

"Shaneil, honey listen up. You have such an amazing life ahead of you. I'm honestly excited for your future and no matter what happens in this short time frame. I'm on your side. 100%." Rain's mother promised. Shaneil began to tear up a little. Shaneil did not have a mother figure. Her mother passed away from a fire incident when she was younger. She had almost no memories of her. It was just her and her Papa. When Shaneil met Rain and her mother, it opened a new door for her. Rain's mom was always so inspirational in everything she did and the way she talked. Shaneil really looked up to her.

Which she why she always encouraged Rain to maintain a good relationship with her mother. Because she knew what it was like without one and would kill for a relationship that Rain had with hers. "Can I, hug you?" Shaneil asked afraid. Rain's mom nodded her head and Shaneil threw herself into her arms.

My mom is so sweet. Rain thought before coughing and breaking them apart. "So how long do you plan on being here this time?" She questioned. Rain's mom let out a slow smile. "Actually I'll be here for the next three months. I'll be working in my office and from home. Until summer and then I'll leave again to handle some other things." Her mom exclaimed excitedly.

Rain let out a squeal of happiness and ran to hug her. Laughing as she held her daughter in her embrace. After a few minutes of hugging, they both sobered up and took a seat on the couch. "Mrs. Love, I have so much to tell you." Shaneil exaggerated finally unable to control her gossiping ways.

"Please tell me. Girl, you always know everything about everything." Rain's mom joked.

"Well, I can't have you left out. Can't I?" Shaneil leaned against the couch getting comfortable. "At school, I found out that a senior on the football team was talking to this first-year student and now she's pregnant. But get this! Her family is super religious, so they are forcing them to get married."

Rain and her mom let out a dramatic gasp. " You cannot be serious! That is insane." Rain exclaimed in shock. Shaneil smirked. "That is not even half out what I found out in my investigations. This will make what you and Tye have going on look like a date in kindergarten."

"Wait a minute. Who is Tye?" Asked her mom. Rain froze up in fear and Shaneil face-palmed herself.
