Chapter 28: The Escape

Another thirty minutes ticked by before I announced my shift had ended to the room.

“You need to sign out with security, Sophie.” The supervisor replied.

“Sure thing.” I collected my bag and made my escape from the room.

Back in the bathroom, I removed my disguise and changed into my cleaning uniform. My heart hammered with anticipation. The duplicate vase was fully packed and ready to be shipped. There was no way anyone would notice the forgery until it had arrived back in Iraq, and by then I had planned to disappear.

The rest of the evening ticked by painfully slow. I took my time in each room on my roster and didn’t speak to anyone else for the remainder of the evening. Thankfully, I didn’t run into Harry or Ms Saunders and managed to sign off my shift by 9pm.
