Chapter 49: The Party

ONE MONTH LATER

I sat sipping my tea on the back deck of Vazar’s parents’ garden. The evening sun had just set, and the sky was lit with deep purple hues specked with golden flecks that I guessed were distant stars.

“It’s so peaceful out here,” Amaara sighed, reaching across the table to squeeze my hand.

“It sure is,” I inhaled the scent of wildflowers that blew down the hill.

“Can you believe I’ve been here for a month already?” Amaara picked up her tea and took a small sip.

Both of us were out in the garden enjoying the spectacular sunset. It had become a little tradition of ours to spend sunset together. After my kidnapping, Vazar’s parents advised us not to leave the house alone and, in an effort not to upset them, we spent most of our time at home, unless we were accompanied by Vazar or his family. We didn’t mind sitting at home during the day as we were used to it – our parents never took us anywhere, so we were comfortable to spend time in each other’s company.
