A young girl named Vaelyn turns eighteen and finally leaves a three-year stay within a behavioral facility. As she walks out of the entrance doors for the first time, she faces the dangers of her mental illness in order to survive the world beyond ivory walls. During her journey, she meets a child who helps her find her place in the world.
this is one of the most impactful stories i think i’ve read in a while. it talks about topics that are very deep and very private, but the way that the author exposes them and uses emotion to tear them apart really is perfect. this story blossoms beautifully! ~
I love the way the child explores the world and how she’s the ‘light of the sun’. This was such a beautiful read, I’d love for there to be a sequel. I felt connected to the main character and her emotions. I recommend this story for those who feel they need recovery or escape.
The way the authors connect the characters to the story and the way they show their relationship with one another is genius. They use the sun and the moon to represent one another as they chase themselves throughout the novella. It was really interesting how each chapter gave a new insight into how the world was connected to the characters as they were travelling through it. Brilliant storytelling.
The story carries strong themes but the impact of each theme is softened by the paragraphs of blissful discovery and gorgeous scenery. The poems only give the story more meaning and are beautiful by themselves, but the story does feel a little repetitive in the metaphors it uses. Overall, this was an amazing read.
