The roots

Marilyn nodded. "It seems that this will be one big move against them this time? Do you still hold a grudge against them for being connected to the attack on your family many years ago?"

Ki looked her straight in the eyes and spoke without any emotion in her voice. "That is the past now… the problem is that they are an influence that is like a cult. The Martial Alliance creates a world full of order and stability to suit their needs and so that they can maintain their rule but the result of that is creating a world full of unfairness and desperation as many begin to show their hatred towards the capital for ignoring their suffering… this creates a breeding ground for a cult like existence like the Blood Sect, Devil Sect or Unorthodox Alliance to give them power and make them do their bidding. Even if the people do not fully believe in their core ideology it does not mean that they would not take the hand that has been offered to them even if it comes with a cost so long as they can achieve what they truly desire whether it be revenge or vanity. My families efforts have helped to stabilise the northern parts of the central lands but not everywhere could be considered to be safe from their influence and reach. They only need to send out their people to spread their martial arts or philosophy to recruit those desperate people and they will continue to spread so long as humans contain their basic desires. It is a never ending cycle that will continue no matter how many of their recruits are wiped out or how many of their private assets or strongholds are destroyed so long as their spiritual leader and the very roots of their foundation still remains. Even if we can hurt them a little now with this operation… in the long run it will only be like an annoyance to those sitting on their thrones of power."

Marilyn read her expression and listened carefully to her tone throughout the whole explanation then spoke after she had finished. "So.. you mean the end game is to remove the roots to let the whole organisation collapse without its main support and leadership?"

Ki nodded with a firm look in her eyes. "Someone must do it… if it is my destiny to take up this task and succeed then I will do everything in my power to get rid of this corruption… however the biggest problem is the result of doing so. The fallout would be heavy.. although fame can be gained from such an accomplishment this would also put a big target on my back so I cannot move until I am sure that everyone is in a position to handle your own respective roles without collapsing under the pressure."

This was probably the first time that she had discussed the long term goals out loud with someone and had been so honest about it.

She was walking on a difficult path that was different to her previous life but that did not mean there would be no similarities at all…

The various influences in the world would simply not stop their plans to spread their influence at the cost of the suffering of many others and it would not be long until chaos landed right before her.

Although she had succeeded in her previous life in her goal, there was still so much she could have achieved if she had more monetary support, trusted allies that she could rely on and a body that was in a better condition.

Now she had the experiences and knowledge from her previous life but she also had those things and more.

Even with the support of her unique Generation qi art and lots of blood qi that she had gathered that had also gone hand in hand with her strict training requirements that she set for herself, she never truly expected to experience such an explosive growth but over the years her talent for swordsmanship had seemed to have shown itself once she had found her own path to walk upon.

Her ideologies, insights and experiences that she had gained in her previous life were deeply ingrained in her mind but as she was experiencing this new way of life, she began to reflect on many errors that she had once made but also made an effort to plan for any other possible problems that might arise in the future.

As for what happens in the future or if she is successful then it would be hard to say right at this moment but now she was a lot more confident in herself and those around her that if things did stray from the path they would be able to adapt to the changes.

She looked at Marilyn who was once her master and her voice became a little softer when she spoke. "Have you found out anything about your parents yet?"

Marilyn frowned and then replied. "Not yet.. it is too difficult to find out about something that had happened more than fifteen years ago without it possibly raising some unwanted attention. I do not wish to hurt Nox or the family just so that I can find out the truth."

Ki put on a helpless smile as she stated. "Sometimes.. bloodline ties are what people have no way of escaping no matter how much they avoid it. Perhaps one day you will find out when you are ready… or whatever it is.. your families past may come find you when you least expect it to."

Marilyn looked at her and then thought of something that they had discussed in the past couple of days and understood what she meant. "What do you wish to do about that matter that we have found out? Should we deal with it in some way or leave it to see how they will act?"

Ki closed her eyes with a frown on her face and then spoke in a cold tone. "Let's leave them to see what their purpose is… then we will decide what to do after consulting the family if they make contact."

Marilyn's eyes had a cold murderous glint in them and said. "Just say it and I would gladly make those fools suffer."
