Chapter 30-Alessia & Aiden
"How did you end up here?" Olivia wondered, a smile on her face.
"I'm here with my friend to do some work for my studies," I responded slowly, trying not to glance at Aiden.
This was the most uncomfortable experience I'd ever encountered. I was shocked no one died because the tension was so intense. Logan approached me with a smirk and a book in his hands just as Aiden was about to say something. He set his beverage on the table and started showing me the book.
"I think you'll enjoy it," he said with a smile as his grey eyes locked on me. I smirked as I slowly took the book.
"I already read it," I said with a smile, but I was grateful for the gesture.
"How about we just pick one?" Logan inquired, a smile on his face. I broke out cheering all of a sudden.
Just as I was ready to check the shelves, I exclaimed, "I'd love that." Olivia and Aiden drew Logan's attention. Aiden was furiously staring at us as steam began to build up inside of him and his body began to blister.
"Are these your friends?" In a suspicious tone, he inquired.
"Kind of," I said, attempting to sidestep the discomfort. Thankfully, Logan greeted them all, and we began cautiously approaching the shelves stacked with books.
"See you later," I muttered to Olivia as I walked away from the uncomfortable position. Logan and I debated for a long time before deciding on a book, but after I informed him about the Vampire book I had, he got fascinated with reading it. We started walking back to our seats with a cheer. We sat down, and as soon as I handed him the book, he was captivated by it. Fortunately, I began my study on the Guardians and began putting down as much information as I could in my notes so that I might at least utilise it later.
I started learning more about how to make spells without requiring potions, which was my absolute favourite. After at least an hour of working, Logan and I decided to take a break and went to the Cafeteria on Floor 1 to grab something to eat. On the way there, I started asking him how he preferred the book, and all of a sudden, he started telling me every detail, which made me extremely delighted.
"What about you?" With a nudge, he inquired.
"I was researching supernatural creatures like the Guardians," I said quietly, hoping no one would hear me.
As we waited in line for lunch, Logan exclaimed, "Cool."
Finally, when it was our turn to order, I told him that I would pay
Logan smiled and added, "That's ok, I can pay."
"How about you pay for the beverages and I'll pay for the meals?" I inquired as soon as he consented. Logan ordered Chow Mein with Dumplings, which smelled phenomenal, and I ordered a selection of sushi to share with Logan.
We returned to the library after I paid and immediately began eating. Logan proposed that we split our meals so that we could try out different dishes, which I thought was a fantastic idea. The sight and aroma of the food was a gentle massage to my soul. The vivid colours of the food spoke to its freshness and the bold flavours to come.
We started eating and conversing, which I adored and found intriguing. Just as I began to assist Logan with chopsticks, the werewolf pack began to walk through the doors and sit right beside us. I kept showing him how to do it, but he didn't seem to grasp it.
As I walked up to him, I motioned with his hand and he understood immediately. Everything went downhill when Aiden and Olivia stepped in and saw me clutching Logan's hand. Olivia pushed Aiden away as he was about to walk towards us his eyes ablaze glowing violently. As we proceeded to complete our meal, I sat back in my seat clutching my stomach from the overload. The food was so exquisite that I desired more and more but was pretty sure that I'd collapse. I agreed to throw our trash away after Logan finished eating with a couple of sauce stains on his mouth. Just as I finished putting the garbage away I began walking back to my seat, but Aiden grabbed me and shoved me against the door just as I was going to return to my seat.
"Can you tell me what you're doing?" In a threatening tone, he inquired. I was enraged, therefore I struck him in the face so hard that he fell to the ground. I built a force field around me just as he was planning to attack me. Aiden was taken aback when he saw this.
"You can't even put your trust in me?" Aiden questioned, his voice melancholy.
"Please leave me alone." Do your research and get out of here before everyone finds out who you are and kill you!" I yelled at him as I turned around and began approaching the table.
"What if they find out about you?" Aiden inquired, his voice trembling with concern.
"Then it's up to me not you," I said as I sat back in my chair, a false smile on my face.
Aiden
I trembled as I watched her leave me once again shattering my heart into a million pieces. You used to be my sunshine, the one I ignited from the inside for. Even if my thoughts simply moved your way for a little second, I used to get a rush of affection. I used to grin whenever I saw your face; I would yearn to dive into your eyes. I would have done everything you asked for and given you anything you want. My sadness is gruelling grief that comes in waves, robbing me of my appetite and sleep. It's a shard in my gut that never leaves, though the edges may mellow over time. It seems like death, much like grief, and it chokes my breath and short circuits my thoughts at quiet moments. What was once whole is now shattered; where there was once tranquillity, there is now emptiness, echoes of a love I gave my everything to. You take another step away from me with each passing day that you are not at my side, even if I urged you to exhibit some sense of compassion, affection, or love. You bring nothing except rage, distrust, and an averted stare. My only "crime" was not being able to handle your fury and the words you let slip out uncontrolled. I've always done my best for you and continue to do so today. As insufficient as you find me, this is my best; it's all that's left of a once proud and strong spirit - shards on the floor, afraid of being blown away by the next breeze. In my mind, there was only one thing that made sense right now.
Would I ever be able to forget about her?
