He Had Bought Her

Maya hardly saw Vincent for the next week. She read from the dictionary until her voice went hoarse as Cassandra recorded her and then worked on her designs for a while each day before finding ways to entertain herself as usual.

It was strange being in a silent garage. She was used to the hum of various machines or sparking noises as her husband worked on wiring.

Every so often, she would glance over at his usual workstation and felt odd not seeing him there. She couldn't possibly miss him, could she? No. That was too ridiculous. She had simply gotten used to his presence the way he seemed to have gotten used to hers.
