A vampire hunter who is born into The Faith, a cult that preaches purity and hatred for vampires, Luke's newest mission is to capture a half-vampire in his town. He starts working at a bar in New Orleans to get familiar with local nightlife, and there he meets Abel.

Abel, with his bright hazel eyes and dimples that frame his smile, wedges himself in the middle of Luke's mission. He's everything that The Faith hates: he drinks casually, his ears are pierced, and he's not shy about making his affections for Luke clear. His relaxed attitude is like a magnet to Luke.

After wearing Luke down, Abel persuades Luke to hang out at his apartment, where he introduces him to his brother. The sight of him shocks Luke: he's a dead-ringer for the half-vampire he's hunting.

Knowing that Abel's brother is his prey, Luke is torn between fulfilling his mission for The Faith and his fear of losing what he has with Abel.

The FAITH

In the end, they never turned on the TV. Abel and Luke drank through a six-pack of beers and talked, veering towards light topics after Luke admitted his dire situation. He asked Abel why he liked such dingy places as Eventide and the diner, and that made Abel laugh. 


"It's not like security is a luxury job," he said, grin wide on his face. "I have to find places that are good and cheap." 


Luke sat sideways against the arm of the couch and asked more about his job. His brain felt hazier as the night progressed and Abel told him about finding a box of kittens in the parking lot and that the most action-packed part of his job was telling teens making out in cars that they couldn't park there. 


It was easier for Luke to sit across from Abel and watch him laugh and smile when he had some alcohol in him; he didn't fret over his every motion, and instead allowed himself melt into the warm sensation that lit in his cheeks and his chest when Abel looked at him.
