Chapter 32: The Cause

Everett took a long, lingering sip of his whiskey. Vivian noticed his eyes seemed to dull, that flicker of gold muted by his sadness. Vivian knew that look well, having seen it many times on the faces of people she considered her friends at the time. But now, she didn't have any friends. The Society made sure of that.

“After you left that night, I decided to stay in New Orleans,” Everett explained. “I wanted to make sure that Marcus was going to keep his word. Plus, I was curious as to why he wanted me out of New Orleans.” He took a small sip of whiskey. “I learned from various contacts that Marcus was gathering vampires, more than a faction, an army.”

“An army? For what?”
